OT: Visiting NYC - Advice
Hi All,
Myself and the wife are visiting the big apple this weekend for a 4 day break. I've planned out most of the trip and the only thing I haven't got is a list of good resturaunts, can anyone recommend some medium priced, good value ones? also some good bars with live music etc.. We're staying in the midtown area. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Tim. ____________ 1983 SC Targa |

Tim,
We have quite a few guys on this board that live in the NYC metro area. This is a big holiday weekend here in the US (Thanksgiving), so many NY members of this BBS might be traveling. I suggest you pick up a NYC "Zagat's" guide when you arrive in NY. It has a very objective listing of resturaunts in the city; all with ratings by dining patrons. Hopefully, others can help you with bars, etc. I work in midtown, but live 50 miles south of the city. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Have a great trip. Bruce |

Tim,
Be sure to check out Popover's on the Upper West Side (northeast corner of Amsterdam Avenue & 87th Street). Brunch, a late afternoon bite or dinner, you will NOT be disappointed. |

I love Angelo's on Mulberry Street in Little Italy. The best Italian food I've had had! It's not too hard to get a table and not too high priced like many places in Manhatten. Also, Bubby's in Tribeca is cool. It's got a neighborhood atmosphere and is more American / comfort food with famous pies. Anyone at your hotel should be able to fill you in on the exact address.
Have fun... I'm going for some interviews in January and can't wait! Happy Turkey Day, Pete

Second Avenue Deli for a big fat Hot Pastrami Sandwich!!!
And enjoy the waitresses! A true piece of New Yawk! 156 Second Avenue Corner of 10th I second Angelo's! Not much to look at, but the food is excellent! However I will say that I have waited outside for 1 hour for a table in the past...they do not take reservations. But it is worth it. Last edited by 78silversc; 11-27-2002 at 01:55 PM.. |

Mcsorleys, or the White Horse Tavern if your looking for some history and frosty beverages.
The Museum of Natural History, and MOMA should not be missed. There are more good resturants in NYC than you could ever imagine, you never know what kind of gem you will stumble into walking around NYC

My wife and I just had an incredible meal at Miracle Grill on Bleeker (The Village) between Bank and West 11th. Called a poor man's Mesa Grill (Bobby Flay's restaurant) The meal was awesome for 4 people with drinks, amazing margaritas, appetizers and dessert, $140!
On a side note, if you bring your P-car be sure to park in a small lot on Jane street and 4th. I was a bit nervous about lots in the city but when I pulled in he had easily 6-8 P cars including a '57 speedster and a gorgeous late 80s turbo....He was thrilled to park my "classic" next to a 928 and a boxter.... I agree. I get the worst vibe in the world whenever I go to New York... this vibe just doesn't exist in Boston or London or Paris or Hartford or Chicago or even New Haven, as junky as that city is.
Something about New York just isn't right. Still haven't put my finger on it...

If you're looking for the BEST Italian food in NYC, find your way to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn (only 10 minutes from Manhattan). Try Gino's (5th Avenue between 74th & 75th Street) or 101's (4th Avenue & 101st Street).
Take it from a life-long resident of NYC, Little Italy is strictly for the tourists. No self-respecting local ever goes there for Italian food. |
