Any FPV Quadcopter flyers here?

I think I may have gotten hooked. Started with a $100 quadcopter, pretty much owned it as a flew Nitro planes and helicopters for years. Always interested in FPV flight.

Now it's easily obtainable - but looking at a $400-$500 price tag for entry... Want to learn as much as I can before taking the dive.

Who does this?

Looking at the Lumenier and Team Black Sheep platforms 400-500 size.......

I have built an 25o fpv racer, but really have only flown it mostly in regular LOS mode. The goggles are a bit weird for me and have been having a lot of fun with flying 450 helis lately so it has sat around. I know a lot of the racers are crazy about this thing: Vortex Race Quad 5.8 GHz 350mW Kit | Horizon Hobby

I built this I think: Emax 250 FPV | Emax FPV Racer | Emax 250 FPV | ZMR 250

it flies pretty well but a bit boring compared to a cp heli.

That's the next step for me. This looks like hella fun.

Thanks, do you recommend buying at out of the box kit, or building from scratch? Seems like the 450 is a little big for racing, maybe I should go smaller. Is that kit, from horizon a platform to grow on?

Check out Flite Test. Tons of video reviews and how tos. They film tons of stuff FPV too.

I crashed the hell out of my Vision 2 from DGI. I'm wondering what to buy next, because I don't trust it in an urban environment. I'll end up smacking it into something important next time.

Seems to be an active drone racing league around me. The guy that puts on a lot of events is local. Thing is, the local AMA field doesn't allow FPV flight.

I've flown a dozen flights FPV, I didn't like it.

I had a 7" screen, not the goggles.

It was too hard to sense depth of field and "just how close is that tree/chimney/house scale"

I'd rather rip up the sky with my Helicopters, than have a mobile camera platform.

YMMV

Here is a video from a Mobius taped to a FX067 helicopter in my front yard buzzing the house and trees in tight quarters..........Nope I'm not going to fly aggressively using FPV!!! My FX067 is a $85 bird and $85 camera = not too painful $$$ wallet hit if you stick it in a tree. Lots of parts available and web forum support for the FX067. It's little brother is a FX071 that only costs $50 which is dirt cheap fun to get into helicopters instead of Quad Copters (I've own lots of both)

$50 FX071

Great deals on 'copters and FPV systems here at Banggood or Hobbyking, you might want to learn on the cheaper units, before you splat a $1200-2000dollar DJI carrying a Gopro and 2-3axis gimble

I have a DJI Phantom 3 Advance, awesome toy/hobbie. Hardest part is finding good palces to fly it. I prefer to be away from people/houses/events/etc.

Just got new filters so I'll be taking it out tonight, I'll post a vid from it.

I've got 10 planes, a heli, and a cheap quad. Never got into aerobatics competition so racing these sounds like more "my speed"... Always went for the fast planes too... :)

THe fpv racers are mostly 250ish sized. Build or buy is definitely a personal choice, some of the equipment is not well supported in my experience, it ends up being a bit fiddly getting things to work together.

I believe the fpv racer I linked to from horizion is bind and fly, but you will need the appropriate goggles as well as batteries and chargers.

I personally like fiddeling with this stuff so something like a DJI ready to fly out of the box is no good for me. Most things from horizon/blade/spectrum are well supported and they have great customer service.
