When You Retire...

you can spend your days dinkin' around with silly stuff like this.
.
Picked up 3 more new Etri (France) whisper fans off Ebay ($20)...they spin much faster than the two that I have (use them to cool my big ass receiver), plus I like using them for other things.
Because of their higher rpm they were a little too noisy for me...thought of how to slow them down.
So I had an old dimmer switch sitting around...a few electrical items...and this walnut box full of spare change.
Well?.....

Things are slowing down for me to where I'm choosing what I want to do. This is my tenth year of retirement. For most of those years, I came to understand when I was younger and hear retired guys say they didn't know how they had time to work before retiring.

I look back now and wonder how I had time to do my laundry or go to the grocery store or the bank.
Ever hear retired gents talk about becoming bored and deciding to take a part time job?
Not me...I love to putz around. 'Have a huge fun "To Do" list.

I suspect that most of those who have nothing to do just do not have the finances to enjoy themselves. Even cool little projects will nickel and dime you to death. Either that, or their wives, kids or grandkids simply are too annoying to bear.

AND you can go online and share with people. Old days all you could do is run over to the wife and she'll say "great" and not give a ****.

The closer I get to retirement, the more I am convinced that I will not completely stop working. Consulting or even a hobby that pays some (like flipping interesting cars etc.).

I've been retired since March. Everybody at work said I'd be bored. Well it hasn't happened yet.
I just returned from a week in NYC.
I'm heading to Barrett Jackson in Las Vegas in 3 weeks.
I do small jobs around my house.
I also go out to lunch with friends.
Over the winter I'm going to do more snowboarding.

I just changed the color of the trim on my house from Hamilton Blue to Brilliant White - just because I wanted to see how it looked-- and I had the time. (23 true wood louvered shutters, three entry doors, and the patio doors.)
(Came out nice - I think we like it.)

I retired in early 2009 & I roll the big "seven-zero" next Feb. I usually recite this, chapter & verse, to anyone about to retire & who'll listen: You'll be busier now than you've ever been before & you'll start to wonder where-in-hell did you find the time to do all this stuff, hold down an 8 hr. day job plus the commute plus the usual daily home orientated tasks etc. You won't get weekends off but you'll take much longer coffee breaks.

In point of fact - I have a very nice wife, good health & I'm enjoying every minute of a very nice life being retired. To all of you about to move on to retirement - its' all good.
Caveat: Just make sure you have something to retire to.

Now to just get that P-car going, more practice time on the guitar & teach myself some juggling......

Cheers
JB
