HVAC Experts - Ductless AC Question

I have been pondering adding a ductless split AC unit to my bedroom, I have a big house, and I only care about AC in the bedroom. This will make my room cooler and save me some money. Maybe.

Someone has offered me a Mitsubishi Mr Slim1 ton split HVAC unit very cheap. It is installed in their house, and they want it removed. It's basically 'take it out and you can keep it'.

Is there any reason I can't just yank it out, install it to my house, and then pay a contractor to recharge it?

No. That is possible. It may be a challenge to find an HVAC outfit to charge the system. I would find them first, before you do the work.

Remove (and I mean recover) the refrigerant, disconnect the electrical, disconnect the lineset and don't damage them or the insulation and re install.
If you know a refrigeration mechanic pay him some cash to remove the refrigerant, you could install it and have the guy evacuate the system and recharge with the recovered refrigerant. You may need to top off.
It might just be easier to buy a new one.

you pump down the freon by shuting the freon line that feeds the inside unit the suction line pressure will fall as the condensor fills with freon then close that valve you would need only to vacume the line set and in door unit then open condensor valves and your done A one ton (12,000 btu) costs about 1.200. to 1.400 whole sale

In the long run you're better off getting a new unit.

How long a run? Free is hard to beat.

That Mitsubishi Mr Slim is supposed to be a very reliable well engineered unit. It is also very simple to install and you could probably do it without Wild Willy West's knowledge of AC. How come I never get a deal like that?

If it wasn't a Mitsubishi I wouldn't consider it. The Chinese crap isn't worth the effort.

Yep, the compressor will recover the freon itself, then pull vacuum on the new system and open the valve to recharge. No need to get more freon. Another nice feature on the mini splits!
