Exactly what he said. Did you dock your daughter's allowance when she spilled stuff or broke plates/bowls as a kid? I've never understood why people freak out about that kinda stuff.

FIFY.
And I respect your opinion, I just don't agree.

Food servers get paid very well considering the the job.
Truth be known they're probably pulling in $20 to $25 an hour, and because most of them don't declare all tips on taxes, that is probably closer to $30 an hour.
Pretty good money for a job most high school girls could do with 4 hours of training.
A difficult job that almost anyone can do is not worth much $.
A hard job that only a very few can do well is where the $$$$ is.
Supply and demand.

And again, people in this thread are demonstrating the attitude that a big tip is DESERVED, and not leaving a big tip is punishment.
That simply is not the case.

A tip is a REWARD for exceptional service. It is something extra that has to be earned.

If the service is not exceptional, then no tip is earned or deserved.

$140. comes out to $35.00 per per person including drinks (i assume). I guess I have a different idea what constitutes 'high end'. I also agree that a true high end establishment would have offered something for their mistake whether it be free desert, a bottle of wine or an offer to cover cleaning.

@sammyg, I hope you don't eat out much, you sound like you'd be the customer from hell. :)

I would've stood up and flipped the table upside down and started throwing a few windmill punches, for sure.

Here's my story.
Out for dinner 2 servers collide and 2 plates of pasta hit me on my shoulder. My leather jacket on my chair took the brunt of it.
Now get this one of the servers tries blaming me for sitting there. The owner seated us.
Anyway the owner grabbed a used cloth to wipe my jacket. ( It never was the same)
No apology, no free coffee or desert nothing, just the bill.
Whenever people I know want to eat at that place I tell them what happened to me.

By the way Guy you did the right thing. At least you got an apology.

Tell your daughter she got off lightly. In New Zealand a guy got beaten up by a waitress  and didn't even get an apology . Mind you, he slammed them in a review on Tripadvisor.

Cannot answer the OP's question without a pic of offending waitress. Was she hot?

Uh no....would not have made any difference anyways. Daughter says she got no apology. T shirt and pants washed just fine. Then daughter and husband went home to find fire trucks at their condo building. Could not get into their building for a couple of hours. It was a false alarm.

hey isn't that typical behavior of a rock star?:D:D:D

Its was an accident. Depend on the service, I still tip accordingly and would not have taken anything free meals or discount. If the waitress was a royal bicth, then it would have been different.

Oh yeah! And rip your daughter's shirt off and show it around say'in "Look at this! Rosalita here effin' ruined it, am I right?" Then fap the husband in the face with the soggy shirt and shout, "And what are YOU do in' about it you limp wristed tweedbuckle?"
That'll get you free pitchers of Marguaritas every time.

Parnell. They didn't need the money.

I did a runner from a restaurant in Spain once. The waitress was being VERY rude to my German girlfriend to I was even ruder back to her. Next thing you know a guy about the size and looks of a gorilla appeared and started giving me angry looks. I pretended to leave the cash on the table but as soon as we got to the door I said run for it. Quite exciting stuff :D

impactbumper 09-16-2015 03:12 AM

Crap happens, I got stuff dumped on me with no apologies so many times. Life is too short to trip over these kind of things. OP handled it just like how I would minus posting a thread which means he believes he should have done something else, or deserves something...

DanielDudley 09-16-2015 01:46 PM

Good Lord, Where's your sense of outrage, Man ?

Oh, right, Canadian. Carry on.

FWIW, I would have tipped about the same, I think.
