(MA) Cape Cod Beaches

I know there used to be a few people on here from the Cape. I'm trying to find a particular beach for my girlfriend. The story I'm told is that she and her sister had gone to a beach just before her sister past away. This particular beach was preceded by a huge staircase leading down a cliff. She thinks it was near her timeshare in West Yarmouth.

In the many weekend searches, I find nothing with a cliff nor stairs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

When you say weekend searches, have you used google earth or gone there in person. I would think you should be able to find every staircase in a couple hours of screening satellite images?

Also search for pictures of the coast. For the west coast of California, there is a helicopter ride imaging every inch of coast. California Coastal Records Project -- Aerial Photographs of the California Coastline

Good Luck,

G

This it?

Image isn't working...it's the second link in the above search.

Have spent a lot of time in Yarmouth, and can't think of a beach that fits the description (of the large staircase). I'll double check with my in-laws, who live there. There are homes on the bluffs that overlook Cape Cod Bay often with stairs that lead down to the beach, but the cliffs aren't what I'd call huge. The beaches with the bigger cliffs seem to be on the Atlantic side of the Cape, off the top of my head.

Any more information? On what road is the timeshare? Any other landmarks on the beach?

edit: Mrs. Noah grew up in the area. She can't think of any beaches in West Yarmouth that fit the description. She suggested the Outer Cape, or along Cape Cod National Seashore.

I think Nauset beach has a large staircase but not sure about a cliff.

The timeshare was at 183 Main St. West Yarmouth. This trip took place something like 8 years ago so there's not a lot I have to go on.

gacook, that beach is in Wellfleet. I did see that on a bing maps search. We'll check it out. My Gf says that they mostly drove from Yarmouth MA to Salem MA on the trip (California girls don't mind driving). They would pass this but I haven't seen another as close.

I think the one that gacook mentioned is Marconi Beach:
Marconi Beach

This one appears to be just down the street from the time-share:
Colonial Acres Beach

Another staircase-access beach a bit further East:
Sea Street Beach

I know that Chatham Lighthouse Beach had a large staircase going from the street parking area to the beach. It has been washed away a few times. It would be helpful if she could pinpoint if the beach was on the bay side or the ocean side, along 6A or Rt28

Thank for the leads. She doesn't remember unfortunately and her daughter was too young. We'll check out these suggestions. Maybe something will ring a bell.

I have two relatives living in Harwichport - I'll pass this along and see what they can come up with.

This is the one I was thinking of.

Huge wooden staircase leading down (not cliffs) but very steep sand hills/drop-offs from erosion.

If it was Ocean side this is likely it.

One thing I want to add. Sometimes your memories are not accurate. It is possible things wash over and are combined, especially if you remember some enchanted place or moment. In this example, could the cliff and the staircase be in different locations?

This happens to me often with hunting or diving spots. In my mind they blend over into each other. I know exactly where the spots are but when I get there, they often look different than I remember, are further apart etc. and I realize that I combined information in my memory.

Very likely in the case, aigel. Especially with the trauma of her losing her sister shortly after that last trip east.

Being that Chathem is closer to Yarmouth, that's my bet.

Thanks for all the help, guys.

That's actually the first place that popped into my mind. It's a touristy place which isn't too far away from Yarmouth. You park in the lot that's across from the lighthouse, and there is a long flight of stairs down to the beach.

Just an observation: Here's a thread by an east coaster trying to help a west coaster find something in the east coast by taking ideas from mostly west coasters. Alrighty then. Lol

PS, the staircase at Chatham has moved from one side to the other because of storm erosion.

Gogar 09-19-2015 05:50 AM

The Nauset Light beach does have a staircase, and a hill that might look like a cliff if you're a little person.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1442670586.jpg
