Unlocking an iPhone...

Contacted AT&T about unlocking an iPhone 4S I found in the house and was told to sync it with iTunes to unlock it.

I'm running Vista and from my search online, there's no iTunes for vista.

Any ideas?

Anyone have a link that I can use?

You should also be able to go to a ATT store (not a authorized dealer) and have it done.

Wait, carrier unlock or screen unlock?

Carrier unlock.

I thought there would be a code I would enter but it's done through iTunes. And I hate iTunes!

You don't need iTunes for carrier unlock.

Go here, https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/?#/

Click agree at bottom of page and hit Continue.

Make sure you have the original phone number that the device was issued with.

on a side note, iTunes works fine with Vista.

I had iTunes years ago, but can't find iTunes on the apple website to download it again. It seems to be all iTunes for windows 7 and newer.

I tried that. It's a request to unlock the phone. I was then sent an email to sync with iTunes to unlock it. I just can't find a version of iTunes that works with my laptop with vista home home basic.

We are going to the Apple Store this Saturday to have my wife's phone looked at. Maybe they can help?

Carrier lock is exactly what it sounds like, it's locked on the Carrier side, ATT, T-Mobile, etc...

If they sent you the email then the unlock has been processed.

They want you to backup and restore via iTunes to preserve your data.

If you already have a SIM from a new carrier pop it in and see if it works.

If still not seeing new carrier and there is nothing on the phone you care about keeping just do a reset from the phone,

Settings->General (scroll to bottom) ->Reset->Erase All Content and Settings.
