$600,000 Harley-Davidson!
September 22, 2015... Melbourne Australia.
A rusty, dusty, unrestored 90-year-old Harley-Davidson with dented wheels and flat tyres sold for $600,000 at a Melbourne auction on Monday night. The winner of the auction - a local man - beat off an American phone bidder for the bike and told the room afterwards that he'd be keeping the Harley in Australia. Check this out. Attached link has an embedded video that's worth a look. Woohoo What a Beauty. Bidders go the whole hog as Harley-Davidson makes $600,000 at Melbourne auction

Sweet. The sounds are pretty cool in some of the running examples in that vid.
Not an 8 valve race bike, but I would love to have an old pan head with some patina to take up and down the boulevard. G |

That's really cool. But just to clarify, that was $600k in Australian dollars, not USD. They have some weird money over there, they call them dollars but a new 911 costs 250k of them, etc.

600K AU $ is approx 400K US $, so it's still no slouch.

Also, that is the first example of Harley's 'new' twin cam technology..............

I get original and unrestored, leaving the dents... but not even being able to put new tires on it?
Shouldn't it be worth more functional?

Right. So it's $400k, not $600k in the way that most of the world understands the term, "dollar". Got it.

Speeder:
Not that I will ever be able to afford something like that, but if I did it would be a runner. It would get ridden just for my own enjoyment even if it was just around the corner for a gallon of milk. Besides, something like that should run at goodwood and other motor meets. Its a historical piece now...but IMHO it should be a MOVING historical piece.
