I promised my Son that if he lettered his first year in Sporting Clay I would get him a competition gun. He has a Stoeger Condor but the barrel is actually to short and the stock isn't tunable.

He shot a team gun for states - a SKB 485 and did well. It was adjustable and killed more clays. Not sure he will get that gun again this year and frankly it gave him some issues with a pin. After about 15 to 20 rounds a pin would come loose. He shoots between 200 and 300 rounds a practice so it sees some action. Its was a brand new gun - took it to the smith and got it fixed - left an impression I guess plus it was a side-by-side and he likes the over under. Go figure.

There are few kids who have Krieghoffs or Perazzis but I'm not going there. These kids are also amazing shots. Someday maybe.

I was thinking a Blaser F3? Or a Beretta, Browning or a H&K? I would love to buy one used.

I had a Browning Citori Special Trap. They also make a Special Sporting Clays. It was very nice, as expected.

You say he has a Stoeger Condor. Have you looked at the Condor Competition model? It has adjustable comb.

I REALLY liked the CZ-USA Sporter I once shot. I was a beautiful. I believe the Sporting Clays specific gun is the Sporting "G2".

For about $1000 brand new (or so), Mossberg has a Silver Reserve O/U Sporting. It's great bang for the buck.

I've always felt like moss bergs were more like AKs... Not the most accurate, but they always go bang.

I had the privilege of using a browning BT99 for a while. Shutting that thing felt like shutting a bank vault. So precise. When you liked up on a clay, nothing was left. Definitely an excellent weapon.

For competition, an O/U is the way to go versus a SxS. Get a decent O/U from Blaser, Browning, or Beretta. Stay away from the cheap guns like the CZ, Stoeger, Mossbergs, etc.

I shot a Krieghoff K-80 for years and it was a wonderful gun with fantastic triggers. Far more durable than the Brownings or Berettas. But, like you, I wouldn't go there until things get a lot more serious.

I would not classify the CZs competition models as "cheap".

Yea, the BT99 is an excellent trap gun.

Not a fan. I have seen and heard of too many problems.....just another Turkish shotgun. I would much rather have a Japanese or Italian made gun.

Look at a used K-80. If he does not get serious, you can always sell it later.

Um...are you certain of that? I was under the impression that Ceska Zbrojovka (CZ) guns were ... wait for it ... made in the Czech Republic.

Do just a bit of research.....

The CZ-USA shotguns are made by Huglu in Turkey. I am not a fan of Huglu shotguns either.
