Five dead in plane crash!

This just boggles the mind! I'm guessing they were probably over gross as well.

Yeah, Bobby Joe! You want to fly my plane with me. We'll have a few beers and the go for a ride. Bring your stupid friends.

Feds: 5 Dead After Unlicensed GA Pilot Crashed Homebuilt Plane | Fox News Insider

Five people were killed last week when a small plane crashed in a rural area of southern Georgia.

Now, federal investigators say the pilot was unlicensed and flying a homebuilt aircraft. A witness told authorities she saw the plane flying erratically just above the tree line before it went down at 3:40am ET.

In a preliminary report from the NTSB, investigators identified the pilot as a local farmer named Waylon Boatright, 38, and said his four passengers were close friends.

They said it's unclear why the group was traveling in the middle of the night. No flight plan was filed before Boatright took off from a small airport in Bacon County.

Authorities are hoping cell phones recovered in the wreckage of the four-seat RV-10 will yield some clues.

And holding the beer.

Aviation has a way of sweeping stupid out of the sky.

I don't have any real details or information regarding this crash, but I don't want to feel left out so I'm dreaming up some sort of comment about it based on ???????

I should be ready with it in just a minute ........

Rot 911 09-24-2015 09:42 AM

Orville Wright didn't have a pilot's license either. But it does sound like a whole lotta stupid.

URY914 09-24-2015 10:15 AM

Somehow this will be Bush's fault.....

If you take away the beer comments, all the pertinent facts are there in the article except the fact that you don't have to be "certified" to build a home built aircraft.

All things being equal, the RV series are pretty well-regarded aircraft in the homebuilt world. About as close to a factory built plane as it gets.

They've been very well engineered and the kit parts are manufactured to a high tolerance.

I don't have anything to add about the ability or stability of the pilot, however. Just don't know.

RV's are incredible aircraft.

It's a shame that the headline leads with "homebuilt".

Makes the story even more sensational, of course, but now the manufacturer has to scramble the damage control team...

Sounds like an experienced Air Indonesia pilot to me?

Neilk 09-24-2015 11:34 AM

I also noticed the 3:40AM witness.

I wonder if that witness was a member of the "hold my beer and watch this party" and couldn't fit in the plane. So they watched the plane take off and crash.

And he was the first pilot to kill a passenger in the history of the world!

Damn. That sucks. Very sad

An average of 92 people die each day in car crashes. Most never make the national news.

Stuffing 5 people in a 4 passenger airplane is just not a good idea even with the best high time pilots much less a unlicensed pilot. I would never let an unlicensed driver of a car drive me around.

If the CAR was not already invented, do you think it would be allowed?
