Whats worse is property tax hikes for school districts with these absurd budgets. They got to have stadiums these days! $4 million for the High School's. Hate it. Next they'll want a dome!

Oh don't get me started! They built a NEW high school near me... not so bad you say? I'm also close to the old high school I went to... my class was 900 students therefor the old school could handle around 2500 students! Why not expand or fix up the old school? And the new school has a pool.. and get this.. there is a new public pool going in a block from this new school!

$4 Million is chump change...

Allen, TX build a $65M stadium/athletic complex for it's high school last year and the last I heard they can't use it this year because of construction / safety issues...

and the voting residents of the school district OK'd issuing the bonds to build it.

I think highly visible pink uniforms and spring leashes on overhead track systems are in order, lest a delicate athlete fall on the ground.

The last two Friday nights watching my son play, we spent under an umbrella enduring on/off heavy rainshowers (no lightening), but enough wind to be concerned about turning the umbrella inside out. I never heard of moving a game night for better weather.

Could be to protect the field from being torn to pieces. Play a few games in the same day on a wet natural surface and it won't recover. If the field is astroturf then that really is a pink poodle decision.

John, why include the term "jew" when disparaging the U of M president?

At least around here, most fields see one game (maybe two) just like they did when I was a youngin'....evidently the fields have been wussified just like the football teams imo :D.

This light drizzle today makes me wonder if it's safe to go to the mailbox (my mailman isn't Neuman btw :p)

When I was playing, we played rain or shine. But we don't have lightning here like in other places.

I remember playing in the snow in Utah, lots of fun.

Game officials here carry meters to detect atmospheric discharge. When the meter says stop play, they do, and can't resume until the meter is clear for 15 minutes. I've seen times where they stopped play for a thunderstorm that, according to the weather radar, was still more than 20 miles away, and not a cloud in the sky locally.

Them's the rules, though, and I guess you can't argue with the impending lawsuit if Johnny gets struck by lightning...

Johnny could get struck by lightning walking across the playground.

What's next? Curfew for everyone when there is a chance of a thunderstorm?

Wow. We have those on our buildings where we handle explosives - and they're wildly flaky. And I mean the big field mills that bolt to the roof! I can't imagine the error that some pocket meter would have.

But if it saves some lawyer it's worth it...

Lightning?

When I played HS football ('59 -'63) I suspect that we weren't aware enough to worry about lightning.
I remember the cold on those nights in late Oct. when it did rain in North Dakota.

Brrr.

KFC911 09-25-2015 08:16 PM

I'm not sure why this thread is now about "lightning" other than it's PPOT :D

NO lightning, I repeat, none here today, and none was forecast....quit trying to make excuses for the panzies who don't play in the rain anymore SmileWavy

Maybe it wasn't just the rain however....it was a bit cool too: 60s....brrr

When I played we practiced in all kinds of weather too. I remember our coach sitting in his car with the wipers on watching us to PT drills. We had this thing about never washing our practice jerseys. I made it part way through the second season before mine literally rotted. Bug hunks would come off when I put it on. Good times.

Don Ro 09-25-2015 09:09 PM

Remember running wind sprints after practice? Fun, eh?
50 - 60 yards full out, then quickly turn around and repeat (too many times).

We had 38 - about half boys - in my senior class...Catholic Academy... no money, really, so we played our games in the College stadium.
We practiced on a flat field outside of town.
Farmer who owned it cut the 2' tall weeds/grass a day prior to our first practice.
That crap hanging onto our shoes 'n legs made us super fit that year.
Went undefeated.

Our single wing offense worked of us - only had 16 players...and we played against schools that had over 200 in their senior class.
We usually played both ways.
I played wingback & defensive halfback.
Our fullback made Honorable Mention for Little All American, nation wide.
.
Memories. :)
