I like the new BMW styling... I know nothing about the new BMW performance/reliability.

Looks great! I love black cars... that belong to other people.

^^^^What he said.

Black cars look gorgeous...immediately after being washed/waxed. Unless you do that every day, they look dumpy too fast. Such a PITA to keep up.

That is a nice looking Bimmer, though...

I bought my wife a 320i in May. I had a heart attack in April and she convinced me she needed a modern ,new car she was comfortable driving, so I sold our high mile 993 for it and a small amount of leftover cash. I think hers is exactly the same ,( judging by the wheels) She loves it ,I swapped in a full set of 335i brakes (4 piston Brembo fronts and bigger rotors,) otherwise I am leaving it stock. The turbo 4 does a surprizing good job moving it and gas mileage even with AWD is quite good.

Got stung in the nose. Just like the new Mustang. ;) Otherwise looks great! I hope it is a 6 speed - is that even still available? Enjoy!

I've had a couple black cars and never again !. My wife's 2003 BMW 325CI convertible is silver with the black leather interior.....love the no dirt showing silver, but hate the black leather with the top down (Hot).....also, her car desparately needs that 6th gear (3500 RPM @ 72 mph).

Love this car... so far. Only have about 500 miles on it.
I put Blackfire Wet Diamond sealant on it with the hopes of helping out with the
keeping it shiney. Its an 8 speed automatic, I like it !

aigel 10-07-2015 08:35 AM

ZF 8 speed is a nice transmission. I'd still rather row gears -but I do have the same transmission in our RAM pickemup. :) It is the best auto I have owned in terms of shifting.

Tell me more about this Blackfire you mention...my buddy recently bought a black Corvette, and I'm the sucker who usually keeps it shiny for him.

Blackfire Wet Diamond available at autogeek online. One of the top rated paint sealants.
there are others...Chemical Guys Jet Seal,Wolfgang Deep Gloss,Cquatrz there are more, this is just a quick list. It is very very easy to use and work with.Wipe on wipe off. Lasts longer than wax. I put it on my windshield and headlights. I don't use this on my 1988 911. The 911 likes good old wax and polish. The synthetic sealant works best on clearcoat cars IMHO

gacook 10-07-2015 09:28 AM

I'll have to look into it; thanks. I typically use Mcguiar's Polymer Sealant as a last phase when I'm waxing, but am always open to new stuff.

Can You post some more pictures? Curious what it looks like at different angles.

So you had a heart attack and your wife's response was to demand a new car?

My wife was really shaken up as was I. She sold HER car several years ago after we both retired to allow ME to keep my 993 along with my 1966 Mustang and 1955 BelAir , 1972 454 Corvette and newer F150. I did all/most of the driving.
After the heart attack she has been doing a lot more of the driving and was going to buy a used car to have one of her own with an automatic again (Other than my F150).
We both agreed on the sale of the 993 and she picked out the 320i as a replacement.
I,ve also recently sold my BB Vette as well in an effort to clean up my various projects . A massive heart attack at 64 does make one re-examine ones priorities.
The BMW is a nice car (,although I have to ask permission to drive it LOL )

Nice, we just got my wife a 328 diesel sports wagon.

Its a blast to drive but we got white.

Im impressed with it.

Good luck with yours.

Why the swap on the brakes?

BMW more than most manufacturers use a large number of different brake combinations on the same chassis. low power units are equipped with smaller brakes (both rotors and calipers). I think your diesel might have somewhat bigger brakes because of it,s weight but am not certain.
BMW also sells a dealer installed brake upgrade kit ($3000+/-) that fits all 3 series but requires 18" wheels.
The standard 320,328 brakes are 312x20 F rotors,300x20 R rotors with single piston floating calipers. The 335i brakes are 340x30 mm F and 330x20 R and uses a 4 piston Brembo F caliper.(The same as the front in the $$ kit).
Coming from 40 years of 911 driving I like big brakes. The upgraded BMW brakes have better pedal feel and no fade during spirited driving ,even with stock pads. I can feel a difference ,my wife can,t really .
