Maybe it's getting to me because I've been watching Hulu and every commercial is the same commercial, over and over. So for an hour show I get to see the same commercial like . . . 8 times.

I'm not a cave man! I'm actually a lesbian myself. And I have lots of friends who are lesbians. It's that damn sign language that is driving me up the wall.

Could be someone just got the idea to do it or more likely they did some market research that concluded people react positively to inclusionary messaging.

If the later is the case it's just smart business and they don't really care too much if it turns some people off as they are going for the larger audience.

It's only pandering if you are of the opinion that inclusion is a weakness.

I dunno about that. Pandering usually means trying to be all things to all groups, and usually at the expense of consistency of message. WF has a pretty serious image problem in the ethics and customer service departments. I'd say ignoring that and trying some kind of niche marketing campaign, sort of in an effort to pretend they don't have an image problem, might be considered a type of pandering. But then I've never seen any of their commercials and there's nothing they could ever do to get me as a customer. So I don't bother following their PR or advertising.

I am particularly offended by the truck commercial where they have a group of kids and they show them a picture of an identical guy standing next to a truck in one picture and standing next to a econo car.

I worked construction and drove a truck for over a decade... I'm now a tech and commute in a small car... funny, I don't feel any different.

Maybe I would have been more responsive to the commercial if one of the sign-language lesbian adopters was a heroic TG lesbian. Or maybe an amputee or something. I don't know.
