Car stereo question...what did I do wrong?

So my new addition (1978 Mercedes 450SL) did not come with a working stereo...found the deck was just bad and left it at that. Purchased a basic Kenwood deck and installed it last week...worked well other than there is a bad rear speaker to replace.

Now the issue is when I drive the stereo will just shut off, will not power on...no matter what I do. If I stop at an intersection it might come back on, or not....just going down the road it comes on and off again. Meanwhile the power antenna operates perfectly, stays up the entire time so it has consistent voltage which does come through the deck.

I have checked the wire harness, all connections are secure and voltage is good. My thoughts are a bad ground or a short somewhere in the system.

Ideas?

30 years in electronics say run a second ground.

Sounds like a loose wire to me. Check your work.

so after a ton of head scratching, it turns out the new deck I had purchased was faulty. Took it back for a return and installed a new unit. All is good, thanks for the replies and assistance.
