Track guys: Feedback on my app?
OK, so I've been working on a new racetrack database app (Android and iOS) for quite a while... its basically a listing of race tracks in the USA, along with info for each track. Its getting close, but I still have time to tweak it if needed. Below are the types of data I'm including for each track. Any input on anything I'm missing?
Address Telephone number Track website link Track map - Graphic of track showing corners Google Street View of track (if available) Track description Photos of track (approx 10-15 per track) Youtube videos of track Weather - current and forecast Tracks can be searched by name, proximity to current location and map view of USA A future version will have a schedule of upcoming events. |
Who is compiling/maintaining the DB? Can users enter and possibly share their own feedback/ratings/notes/tips?

Great idea -
Maybe categories of "highs" and "lows" like well maintained, beautiful scenery, nice nearby hotels, and watch out for turn 2- lots of accidents. Charles |

I don't understand the basic premise of why you'd even make this app.
Why would someone use an app to research tracks? Wouldn't people prefer to use Google and a full size PC or laptop? Do people research racetracks while "on the go"? Also, most people are within living distance of 1 or 2 tracks. They probably already know about them I don't get the GPS aspect either. Do you think people will randomly go to a track b/c they were not aware they were driving past one? I don't see much of a market for this app, but it sounds like a nice hobby project. |
Availability of race gas!
The POC has serious issues with Spring Mtn and other tracks with no race gas on premises. About 25% of the guys won't run a track if it's not available. Even if they can get a 55 gl drum, they simply have no way/room to transport it. |

Why use the app? People travel. Sometimes they find themselves in places other than their home area and are looking for things to do. Heading to a race track could be one of those things. Personally, I'm always interested in where tracks are relative to where I am at any given moment. If you're at the track for the weekend, an app like this can provide education in the form of the track map and videos. Sure, you could search for them manually, but that's the point of niche software - to save you work. If you're heading to a new track, you can use the app to study photos and videos. If you're just a track nut, like I am, you have the entire country's tracks in your pocket. I think that's kinda cool. If you're planning the weekend at the track, you can use the (future) related businesses feature to research hotels, restaurants, etc. The app will evolve over time to become even more valuable. Its just v1 right now. Anyways, it will probably be .99 or 1.99, so I'm kinda hoping that's in "impulse" territory for purchases. |

A place for racers to recommend and rate hotels and restaurants near the track, maybe link to yelp
Gate open and closing hours. Gate fee. Motorhome hook ups, dump station. Sound limits. Different configurations for tracks that have them (buttonwillow, t hill, etc) On track restaurant / snack bar Nearest hospitals If you want more racer feedback post on the race section here and rennlist |

Track elevation from sea level, and elevation changes in the track itself.

I was on a server that blocked non-USA IP addresses, but that should now be addressed. |
