Electric cars

Turn an Old Car Into an Electric Car

I wonder if they can electrify my old daily driver pickup truck.

There is a kit to convert an S-10 pickup truck to electric. Truck is nice because you have plenty of space for storing batteries.

I looked into building an electric S-10 a few years ago. It was going to cost about $18,000 depending on the price of the truck. My Volt cost me $19,850 and my wife's Volt cost $18,500. The kits might be fun toys but they don't make economic sense.

Over the weekend I changed out the original fan and fan clutch on my S10 to an electric fan.

Very noticeable improvement in gas mileage today, and they said to only expect 1-2 mph improvement.

Something must have been seriously wrong with my old fan clutch, which is what I suspected and the reason for the change out.

Going all electric obviously would save a lot of gas.

What was the MSRP on those Volts?!

I bet it's cheaper to swap the powertrain on that Ferrari then take it to the dealer.
