Oldtimers...how long do you take a hiatus from PP?

Welcome back Supe ;)

So what's your longest "vacation" before returning like a moth to a flame?

Myself, I have no idea, but over the years, I've taken a bunch....weeks, months, maybe even a year (once)....yet here I are :D

IROC 10-28-2015 03:16 AM

I still check it out almost daily and skim 911 Tech, PPOT and PARF, but rarely post unless I think I can actually add value (hence the term "rarely"). ;)

I joined the "porschephiles" mailing list in 1994 and have pretty much been part of some online Porsche community ever since. I also now have an 80 series Land Cruiser, so hang out on IH8MUD also...

I disappeared for a year, maybe 18 months once or twice after selling the 924S, but I'm mostly a lurker anyway.

A few hours! As mentioned above I don't like to type anything unless it contributes something. Addicted? Probably.:)

I took a couple years off after I sold the 930 and was preoccupied with more personal matters. When I found myself in another P-car, I was right back here. And I'm as addicted as ever. For me, it's my only true form of "social media", if I can call it that. I deactivated my FaceBook account almost seven years ago and never looked back. I occasionally make a post on Rennlist, but this has always been my home.

Same here with my online Porsche activity. Whatever happened to Stan Hanks? My 911 hasn't really been much on the road these past 8 years, but finally got it fixed up, so I plan on putting some miles on it and rejoining the Tech board as issues arise.

I don't go much longer than 3-4 days without logging in.

Ahhh!! Stan Hanks! the guy who sort of started it all! Porschephiles back then was pretty cool - every model of Porsche was accommodated on one mailing list (all 250 of us?), so it was a little bit of everything.

Fond memories. Remember the Dave Albrecht/Harry Pellow feud? The crazy misadventures of Ted Matsumura? Bruce Anderson as a regular contributor? Fun stuff.

Welcome back Supe!

I got banned for a couple of weeks for insulting a troller. But even then I just checked PP without logging on.

Damn - feel old now - I remember all those guys

Ted with mis-matched tires, and getting his tie sucked into the fan blade and hitting his head while he tried to check the oil or something... the things we remember. :D

A930Rocket 10-28-2015 07:06 AM

No off time that I remember.

I'm on pretty much every day since I joined, but it was the turbocharged forum when I had the 930 and OT when I sold it.

I need a life...

red-beard 10-28-2015 07:12 AM

Hey Super, you're back in for my 2020 Whitehouse Bid!

Vipergrün 10-28-2015 07:31 AM

I rarely post, but pretty much lurk daily. There have been some classic threads over the years... Some things never change...LOL

cantdrv55 10-28-2015 05:35 PM

I sold off the last of my P-cars last December and I think this might be my fifth post since then.

Superman 10-28-2015 05:36 PM

James, you've always made more sense than the professional politicians, for sure.

I'm not sure how "back" I really am. I am here today. Who knows about tomorrow. But one thing I can say for sure is that you guys have held a special place in my heart for many years and I don't see that changin'. <smile> This is a GREAT board. Very special. Always was and I suspect....always will be.

rattlsnak 10-28-2015 06:53 PM

I've never taken a real hiatus from here in 15 years! I mean of course I miss days when I'm unable to get to a computer for whatever reason but I usually skim over OT once a day and the tech forum 3-4 days a week or so.

nostatic 10-28-2015 06:59 PM

I've gotten burned out moderating parf from time to time and check out, only coming back to prune spam. But as Supe says, this place is a special community, despite a handful of toxin flingers.

I'm shutting down my FB page (except the band page), and have a goal of spending more energy in the real-time physical world. Working in the bleeding edge of virtual for going on almost 20 years now eventually leads you (well, at least me) to believe that analog rules. With PPOT, as an old timer there not only is a wealth of shared experiences, but a number of in-person events as well. It was great to have lunch with some Pelicans again last week. Need to do more of that kinda stuff...
