Weird, even for USPS

In my neighborhood, we are noticing a new phenomenon. I can't quite figure it out, and thought perhaps the PP brain trust could shed some light on this.
I and many of my neighbors apparently have signed up for Amazon Prime, which features free shipping, and generally 7 day a week delivery in a pretty quick manner, like 2 days.
It seems they are using USPS for some, but not all of this business, and the way these generally small packages are delivered is much more sloppy than the normal mail delivery.
I have found boxes on my lawn, on my sidewalk with one dented corner as if thrown from the truck, etc.
The latest is many folks here are saying they did not get a package that Amazon shows as delivered. I know there are a lot of things that could be going on here, but I am guessing that mail carriers are PO'd about this work for some reason. Any body have any ideas? Anyone else seeing this in their area?

Don't know if this is related, but I've been seeing the USPS making home deliveries on Sundays. Didn't understand why, but it may be connected to the Amazon situation you describe.

Around here it's a small carrier OnTrac delivery that delivers some of amazons stuff. I've had them be late or not deliver at all. Generally if it's usps fedex or ups it's fine though.

All of my Amazon Prime Sunday deliveries have been by USPS with no issues (yet). http://www.mye28.com/images/smilies/dunno.gif

I've been doing Amazon prime for at least 3 years now. Several orders per week, never had a problem getting deliveries. Yes I get Sunday deliveries w/ it all the time from both FedEx and USPS. Love Prime...driving to the store to find they don't have what I am looking for is a thing of the past!!

I'm currently an RCA. And I can shed some light into some stuff. USPS has a contract with Amazon offering Sunday delivery. UPS, and FedEx even use USPS to deliver parcels since they do not have the infrastructure. With that said almost all USPS mail goes on FedEx, and UPS aircraft. Go figure. We have the right to make the judgement call to cancel delivery to said house until the dog is taken care of, and the postal inspectors will go out to talk to you to boot. With that said I took the ****ty LLV through the drive way and chucked the parcels out the window. You pay for Sunday delivery, not medical bills. SmileWavy

The USPS part of Amazon Prime sux. Whenever I see that the parcel went to USPS it usually means delivery a day late. Tracking will show "attempted delivery" which is total BS. My house has perfectly good city access with no obstacles or pets to deal with. I think it gets late in the day and the gov worker just says "F it, Im going on break". If it stays with UPS or Fedex its always on time.

I have had problems with packages disappearing off my front porch, which is why I always stipulate delivery to my office. When I was in Texas, I had UPS deliver something when I was out of town that was supposed to require a signature. I called them before I went out of town to instruct them to hold the package at the warehouse. They delivered it anyway, it sat out in the rain a few days and was ruined. Never had anything land in the yard, but have had them need to send something more than once because they could not manage to deliver it to the office, UPS and USPS.

If you don't sign for the package, how do they prove you got it, and not someone else?

The scanners have gps tracking. They know exactly which package was scanned at which house. ^^

As for the hate. You live back east. Unions really ruin it, but before you condemn people. Try living a day in someone's shoes who has never seen your house trying to drop something off. House numbers that are obstructed is plain cruel. Either way thanks for the stereotype.

They are making business deliveries on the weekends and just leaving the packages outside of closed businesses.

That's actually in the Amazon contract. Amazon has specifically wanted carriers to leave it at the door. In turn, Amazon has taken full liability of said packages. :rolleyes:

I've been using Amazon for a while now, and have only had 1 package show up as "Delivered" that I never received. Cheap item, so I simply wrote off the loss.

My "gripe" is when did UPS/USPS/FedEx guys stop ringing the bell to see if anyone's home? I've had multiple deliveries happen while I'm in my house, but the doorbell never rang. I understand they may be in a rush to get to the next dropoff location, but those extra 30 seconds to me go a long way in PR.

That tells them they scanned it at my house. That does not tell them I actually received it. I have had stuff that was ostensibly delivered to my house that I never actually got. Again, how do they prove that something I actually got something I did not sign for?

The answer is that they can't prove I got it

Do you know that if they want to drug test an employee they must submit a request in writing stating what time and date the test is to be done, and what specific drug they are looking for and why. That request must be approved in writing by the union and the employee.
If either says no and fights it, they can drag it out and put it off for over a year.

If a supervisor wants to OBSERVE a letter carrier on his route, it must be approved in writing by the union and employee beforehand, and the time and portion of route must be communicated.

"Hey, I'm going to watch your behavior when you deliver mail to these three houses. Is that OK with you?"

What a joke.

Unions are scum. It's that safety net for an uneducated work force. Mines a little different they'll just follow you on the route without prior notification. But it becomes blatantly obvious when you're being followed by a white Ford Focus with a postal plate... :rolleyes:

Once you make career, you're pretty much un-fire-able. There's a carrier locally that was arrested by the Postal Inspection for "delay of mail". 8 month trial, ended up being dropped for lack of evidence "they were guilty, but couldn't prove it". That person received their job back, and a $40k check for back pay.

Wish the inspectors gave a hoot about my situation. I know they can't stake out everywhere, but if I don't get my mail out of my box soon after delivery, it disappears, and we find it scattered and opened up a rural road. They only take small parcels-they've taken checks and credit cards but aren't bold enough to use/cash them. Box is maybe 1000ft from the house, and along a fairly busy (during the day) rural road. We don't dare go away for even a couple days without stopping the mail. Neighbor with an adjacent box has same issue.

I do rural. A lot of people out in the boonies use the big boxes with a trap door for that reason "almost an upside down vending machine set up". If you get them on video they will prosecute.
