The anitdote for sanity

Shaun looked like he was having waaaaay to much legal fun bringing back that 928, that I thought maybe I could give it a try .

1973 1.7. Is it rusty? fuggetabout it. of course . Actually structurally , it has been patched up . Some pretty decent fab work done to longitudals, and floor pan . But whoever patched up the hell hole area, and suspension console, looks like they may have been learning to stick weld for the first time. It is all solid, just very ugly work. Paint is acceptable for a beater driver, some bubbling here and there , but overall, not that bad
I did a ton of work to this car a few years back, it runs really well, but needs shifter bushings, and a few oil leaks looked at. Also feels like the clutch may be near the end.
I've got a darn cold, worked all day, and am generally feeling pretty crappy right now, but if I can pull myself together , I'm going to run up there tonight and teach Fred IV ( my son ) how to replace shifter bushings on a 914.
I've always wanted one, a almost pulled the trigger so many times, over the years, but never did.
My good buddy Jay gave me this for a bunch of service work we are going to do on his beautiful 944 turbo over the winter . He has been threatening to drag it over to me for months now, and finally did today .
I like it ....
I always said that my ultimate dream autox hill climb car would be a hot rod 914.
Talk me down please .

No :p

They are fun little cars.... especially when you put a 3.2/6 in the middle..

Drop a six in that, and you will get all your money back, assuming you can bear to part with it. But have you ever priced a built type four from California ? They must build them like a factory to get those prices...

If only your mechanic wasn't so busy. ;)

Fix that chrome bumper car, turn a tidy profit, then buy a 75 to hot rod.

A 73 2.0 is the long hood of the 914 world

Hey Fred, DO IT!!! I've had a few 914s, great little cars with tons of character. If you don't have one, find a little 2-2.4 for it and coax 150hp out of it.

My car is proving my thread title correct. I'm pulling the motor out of the 928 tomorrow to do head gaskets. Maybe do a stroker GTS motor while it's out. or not. :D

Unfortunately, I have a hot little 3.0 that has been festering on my stand for a few years now. I also have a 3.2 I could spare if I really wanted to, and a few 2.7 cases and parts laying around. I fear this is not going to go well

Shaun @ Tru6 11-07-2015 05:39 PM

OK, forget 150. 200+! First world problems my friend! :D

The yellow is great!

Slippery slooooooope!

From experience, a 2.7 sorta rs 914 IS an awesome hillclimb car. Have fun.

I'm with Wayner on the 2.0 - especially with factory fuel injection. You don't "need" a 6 banger to make this car scoot.

Like Shaun - I love the yellow!

Congrats, Fred!
