Interesting Foodie stuff on Netflix streaming

Last weekend we watched "Jiro Dreams of Sushi", which I really enjoyed, but then I'm a bit of a Japanophile and I love sushi.

We watched an episode of "Chef's Table" the other day. It's the episode that the cover photo comes from for N Nakamura. It was an interesting show. We're going to watch the rest.

Last night we watched "Somm" which is about 4 guys that are striving for the Master Sommelier certification. It was VERY interesting and a little educational.

We've got a couple of others queued up. I hope they are good.

Looks like the full version of both of the last two are available to watch for free on Youtube as well.

I have watched Jiro numerous times! One of my faves! Even if you aren't a "foodie", I find his passion, work ethic, and devotion to the art, somewhat inspirational! Can be a little slow moving for some, but I like that sort of thing.

Ohhh... this just might push me to get high speed internet after all!

I liked Jiro too...the reviews on his restaurant aren't that great, though I have a feeling most people have unreachable expectations when they go there now.

Not sure I'd want to be on "seaweed duty" for 2+years like the guy who was drying it!

I really enjoyed Jiro, too!
Watched "Sushi: The Global Catch" a few weeks ago. It's on Netflix and Youtube.
I'd like to hear opposing views of it's central thoughts.

I don't know who would give the place less than stellar reviews, but I know lots of folks that say "I like sushi" or "I love sushi", but when I talk to them, they eat no or hardly any raw fish or nigiri. They often only eat the crazy, Americanized rolls. And I'm fine with that. Eat what you like and enjoy it, but then if you go someplace more traditional that doesn't have that stuff, don't give it a bad review. I would assume there aren't many of those folks that make it to Jiro's though.

I am in the middle of 3Stars. It's about Michelin Restaurants.

Chef's Table is good.

The rest are on my list.

3 Stars, added to the list, followed by "The Mind of a CHef" and "Spinning Plates"

Watched another episode of Chef's Table last night, the one on Massimo Bottura - Osteria Francescana. It was excellent.

I'm afraid that if I was Motion doing all of that travelling, I'd be hitting as many of the Michelin starred restaurants as I could.

I agree. We are planning a trip to London in the spring. The biggest thing holding back from eating at all Michelin star restaurants is cost. Le Gavaroche was on my list but at 200 pounds a person and 3 of us. It gets very pricey.

"Mind of a Chef" Great show as well. Ed Lee is a great segment and the southern guy is awesome as well!

"Jiro" was a great film! It was a little bittersweet for me because he reminds me so much of my iaido sensei who passed away a few years ago.

I have tremendous respect for a man who can devote a lifetime to the pursuit of perfection in his chosen field.
