have you guys seen 'yousician' APP?

my son found it and it is guitar hero on an ipad and it listens to your guitar! no hookups needed. pretty wild.

I just bought "Rocksmith 14" for xbox one over the weekend. I thought this was mentioned before, but I couldn't find any threads on it. Very informative.... from beginners to experts. Also, check out this guy, Ben Eller.

Start with the 2nd section with the 3's and 5's.
Each line represents a string.
The string at the bottom (E) represents the fat E string
The string at the top (e) represents the skinny E string

I have been using the yousician app at the suggestion of my next door neighbor who plays a ton. It has been a huge help so far and you can get a free version so why not try it out. I'm thinking I will soon move up to the pay version, the free version limits how much time you get a day with realtime feed back and I find myself often wanting to go for longer.

Lots of different ways to learn guitar depending on your personality. Books, Youtube, private lessons, and playing with friends are all methods I have used. Playing for an hour every day is a good plan to move forward. I did that through Jr. High and part of HS, and set the guitar down for a year with little interest. I picked it back up again and took private lessons which filled out my vocabulary. I played several hours every day in college and that is when I really developed my chops and gigged most frequently.

These days I practice 5-6 hrs a week and gig about 2-3 times/mo. I split practice time between warmup on scales and chords, working out the details of new songs, and reviewing the important details of songs I know. Rust never sleeps and if I don't refresh the music, I just forget stuff and the magic little details get lost.

Just figure out what works best for you and plan to practice during nap time or evenings after Jr. hits the sack. Learn songs that interest you and learn chords and scales needed for those songs. Keep it fun!

I was referred to a private teacher by a couple of people I know who play. First lesson is Tuesday, and I'm pretty excited about it. I decided that I wanted to get a solid foundation and make sure I didn't develop bad habits.

It's fairly inexpensive, $85 per month for one 40 minute lesson per week. I think the structure will be good, and I hope to develop a good set of non genre-specific skills. Ultimately it like to learn to play in a group and gig around/play with some folks as a hobby.
