Digital Scopes
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1447787746.jpg
anyone familiar with digital scopes? i don't care about the camera, or gps, of the wifi capability. the easy zeroing does sound neat. |
I am interested to hear the real world opinions as well.
|
I hear Higgins has two, one on his Ruger No. 1 and one on his Colt SAA. ;) :D :D
|
got a new rifle. 1950 or so FN Mauser in .30-06. have a fair amount of money set aside for a scope. am looking at a zeiss conquest 5-25X50.
but for the money these new digital scopes seem to offer a lot more. i just don't know anyone who has one. in a state full of obsessive hunters no one here has one. i have questions about zeroing, mounting, parallax, battery life. and will the thing just feel pointless and obsolete in five years like every other digital device? or a guy in town has an old unertl programmer that just looks cool. |
Honestly, zeroing is not that hard. All of the other stuff (thermal, GPS, light amplification, etc.) is something you can easily add on to any "system"--except maybe video.
I'd rather spend the money on good glass and add "gizmos" as the urge strikes later. |
The GPS and WiFi functionality certainly is BS. But I am intrigued by the resolution and light sensitivity. You'd also imagine it could have a range finder and compensate for bullet drop after you give it your ballistic info.
The biggest minus on any electronics is that they may not work when needed, due to battery or just being finicky. A good old fashioned scope will always work in any condition, short of dropping it off a cliff. G |
You can get glass scopes with a laser rangefinder that automatically adjusts the zero for you to that range for that particular round.
|
you can now buy your regular scope and buy an attachment that clamps onto the front to add digital.
+ night vision and video. super cool. cant remember the company. three letters..ACI, ATI.. or something. cant google from work or some alarm goes off at headquarters. |
|
That's what my Colt 1851 Navy looks like, but without the bipod. ;)
|
LOL
I would be interested in night vision if I ever get access to this ranch with the hog problem ... depredation of pigs in CA = all bets are off on fair chase. G |
