"Terms and Conditions May Apply"

Kind of an eye opening documentary. Probably not recommended viewing for those already wearing tin foils hats. I found it on Netflix but may be found elsewhere.

Funny, put it on my watch-list earlier this week. Will most definitely watch it now.

Great documentary! Unfortunately, it's already behind. Things are much worse than even in that doc.

The sad thing is that most people think we are still living in a democracy.

Keep you doped with religion, sex and TV. I think some of the local gentry in PARF would get a real kick from the 18" steel studded King Dong SECURITY camera shoved lovingly up their brainwashed asses. In fact, they'd beg for it. They'd NEED it.

I have a hard time believing the government has any interest in what I'm up to. My life is pretty boring.

sc_rufctr 11-19-2015 04:32 AM

OK I agree it's bad but what can we do about it?

So many people want to be considered, to be noticed, to matter...but only to an extent. There is a balance between civil liberties and privacy and being a star on your own little reality show.

If the government or who ever tapped my phone or read my texts in order to protect me and others from bad things like terrorism then I'm cool with it. If they are doing it to establish a better psychology to sell me something or get between my ears to pitch a political stand, ok take your best shot, if your doing to get your jollies then someone needs to tune into another channel. My story is a cure for insomnia.

Same here.

Back in the late 1970s I worked with a guy that was super sensitive about his Social Security number. My understanding of the law is that ONLY your bank and employer HAVE to have your SSN. I understand your Medicare number will be your SSN and that is nuts. Anyone else you can tell them to pound sand, no SSN for you. I expect it is necessary for a passport and some other official things as well but not for the utility company or a doctors office.

Point being back in the 1980s the police and others urged us to (and common practice) to etch your property with your name and SSN to prove it was yours if stolen. I did that for a while but about 1990 I realized protecting my SSN was really important. I have had to argue with some places about it.

I do have a Facebook page but only limited information on there. With just what I have posted here any person with a lot of patience could learn a lot about me. Mostly it would be a cure for insomnia.

I guess I'm naïve but what could someone do with my SS alone? I can't get anything without ID (license or gov ID) and I can't get an ID with a birth certificate. I know the SS number is important I guess I'm not a very good criminal.

Looks neat, I will check it out.

My understanding is the bad guys get the SSN and finding your address and name is easy. They make up a fake ID and call themselves Mr. Holloway and go open up a credit account or buy a car. You get the bill, they get the loan or the car or whatever.

I really don't care. I've been aware for many, many years that there's no such thing as privacy in the digital age. Hell, I ran the "phone company" on one of the bases in Korea back in the late 90's. Any time I felt like it, I could plug into any phone line and listen to the conversation. Granted, that would be illegal for me to do on my own, but I did it for the MPs on more than one occasion to aid with their investigations.

And my SSN? Pfft...Every single thing about my life is in so many databases that have been hacked the past few years, I really don't care. I use credit monitoring services (my own, and now one the government is paying for thanks to the latest OPM breach) and fix things if they happen. The OPM one was big. I have a Top Secret clearance, so Literally EVERYTHING about my life was in those files (to include finger prints and DNA sample), and all that has been compromised. But I don't share **** on Facebook except pics of the crazy things my kids do.

They also file your taxes for you (how nice). With a fake huge refund (ah, not nice).
Causing the IRS to flag your account and investigate and delay your refund by 6 months (if any).

A must-watch is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeitgeist:_The_Movie.

(grain of salt of course)

You should probably cover the computer camera, so 'they' don't use it for emotional facial reaction analysis during certain scenes. ;)
