What is your favorite Joe Cocker original song?
Amazing when you think about how he made a career doing other people's greatest hits.
|
Trick question. He covered songs.

exactly my point

No - they became greatest hits with him performing them. I saw him live during his comeback in the 80s in Montreux - one of the most memorable concerts in my life.
|
He wrote "Ain't it High Time We Went", the only song I remember that was not a cover, so it must be my favorite.

The Mad Dog was such an iconic musician and performer. He took great songs and added meat and texture to them until they morphed into something totally fresh and new. We cover a lot of his work in the style of Joe. He also surrounded himself with excellent musicians and managed to squeeze their best work out of them.

Him and Joe Walsh are the only two epileptic rock n' rollers I know
|
Does he have any original songs?

How about the opposite, name a band/performer that never did a cover, all original? <iframe width="640" height="360" src="http://www.liveleak.com/ll_embed?f=d68d6ae507eb" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Feeling Alright -- written by Dave Mason(Traffic reached #123 on the US chart). I'm only superficially familiar with their music, but did Pink Floyd cover other bands?
|
Even more interesting might be to look into how many people wrote covers for other bands.

Maybe early on with Syd... 65/66? Most bands do start out playing some covers while touring the bars and stuff - right? |

Technically, a "cover" is a song that has been recorded and released by a previous artist, and does not necessarily have to be written by the original artist. |

I know this song was co-written by Bryan Adams et al. but it ranks as one of my favourites.

Pink Floyd might be one of the rare bands that never recorded covers. I suspect they did play covers live in the early days though.
