Not a porsche question
 

I have been driving a Porsche for years. I have just purchased a 2005 mini cooper s. I have posted on the mini forum without an answer. I have a clicking sound coming from the dash. It is a regular repeating sound and it starts when i turn on the switch. Any thoughts or help

Get rid of it and get another Porsche.

Well, what kind of answer did you ecpxpect to get on a Porsche forum? ;>)

Hi Rick T ,sorry to have to tell you this but you have The famous death rattle,
failing timing chain tensioner , the foram you mentioned is probably not answered
because it happens to nearly all mini coopers, although they look ok ,drive ok
they have quite alot of mechanical problems,.good luck.

Ahh, my mistake, sorry. I was wandering around in the 911 tech section this morning, don't know how I ended up here.

In that case... if the sound occurs with the key on and the engine not started, I'd look for it to be either a relay or something associated with the evaporative emissions purge system. Often those have a valve that cycles open and closed to admit vapor from the charcoal canister into the intake. They can make that sort of noise.

Hard to diagnose without hearing it, but that's where I'd start.

One of the actuators for the HVAC would be my guess.
I am only giving you a straight up answer because I feel sorry about your name.

I've had a similar issue with every single car I've owned.

Finally dawned on me that it happens whenever I bumped the stalk where the wipers and cruise controls are.

Seems whoever supplies them to auto manufacturers makes a ****ty product and they all tend to flip up and down with the slightest touch.

Now the first thing I do when I get a new ride is super glue it in place.

Problem solved.
