tablets ? o/s G's ect

looking at tablets
but I know nothing

do I need more then 2 gigs of memory or 16 storage
mostly will be used to watch movies
or web surf
can a card with more storage be added/swapped out ?
memory is not expandable right ?

o/s what is the best ? kitcat lollypop ect or chrome or WinX
virus problems ? or other plus/minus ?

what does 4 cores do better then 2 in a tablet ?

are the battery replaceable ? eazy ?

or am I better off with a refurb laptop
as I can get a i5 older unit for about $200 with W7
and can add mem or a SSD or replace a battery

wife has a mac Ipad but those are more $$$ then I want to spend
as are the surface types

You want a 10 inch or 7 inch screen? For the smaller, I like my Nexus 7 (32 GB) You would want a "Generation 2" (sometimes called 2013). Many on ebay and amazon:

Asus Google Nexus 7 2nd Gen 7" 32 GB Android 4 3 Wi Fi Tablet 2013 Black 886227537143 | eBay

Best bang for the buck in a 7" android tablet.

I like the Nexus line as it is the only one AFAIK that gets regular patches and updates.

I thinking 10''

still don't get all the O/S choices
or advantage's of one system over an other

or if just used to watch flic's surf the need for multi cores vs faster duel cores

and how well added cards for storage work

With Android there really is no "choice" of OS.

The hardware vendors who use Android as an OS typically modify it a bit. And vendor specific apps / features so unlike Windows and OS X there is no master OS release / update. Whether the system gets updates or not is really dependent on whether the vendor feels like bothering. Meaning a system from vendor "X" may never see the most current OS even thought the device is capable of running it.

The NEXUS line of devices has been really good about being maintained with regular updates.

Although update support will likely only last for 2-3 years from when a particular model was released.

So if you buy a model that has been out a year expect 1-2 years of updates before it may be end of lifed.

If you're watching media, it might help to know the source. If you've got content from iTunes, you're stuck with an iPad. If you've got Amazon, you can use the Fire tablets or watch on an iPad via their app. If you're using Hulu, Netflix or others, they tend to have apps for Android and iOS.

You mention adding storage. Apple really doesn't support that, so solutions for more space on an iPad are clunky (wireless storage, aftermarket plug-ins, neither of which will work with all apps). The new Fire has a slot that'll take 128GB, I dunno about the other Android products.

Then there is Microsoft's diabolical scheme, the Surface. It puts Windows on a tablet and emulates a touch interface so you get the productivity of a real laptop with the features of a tablet. Most laptop makes have something similar.

I've got a bit of each: Amazon Fire tablet, iPad, and a Thinkpad 10 tablet. i prefer the iOS interface of the three, but the Fire sees the most use for content streaming.
