Sad about this scam

Sent a text for this:

Viking, Dual Fuel Range, 48inch - Stainless

Got a text back to email Janice D Hamilton at janicedhamilton@gmail.com. Did so and got this back.

Hello Shaun ,
This is a perfect viking range no damage, no scratches or dents, no hidden defects period, it’s in immaculate condition. Viking dual fuel 48" Range (Model # VDSC485-4GQSS ) - 4 burners + griddle + grill. The range is very clean and shows little use / wear. The griddle looks as if it was used rarely if ever and so does the grill. The range is in excellent condition. The range has been tested and it works great. This is one awesome range features best of both worlds: grill and griddle and dual fuel. This range comes form a recent foreclosure home. Whoever buys it, will not be disappointed. Range is now set up for natural gas. It can be converted to LP with a conversion kit that can be purchased from Viking. I'm selling it because I just moved in to a new home in St. Joseph, Missouri. In our new kitchen, we need a 36" one, this one is too big 48" so we decided to sell it. My sale price is $2000. This item has been packed and palletized to prevent any damage upon shipping.

PS: I will do my best to walk you through the process. I told you the reason that I decided to sell it. The range is at the shipping company in St. Joseph Missouri, sealed and ready for shipping. I have a contract with Amazon Payments so this deal must go through them.
According with Amazon Payments you have 5 days from the time you receive the range to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not.
Here is how it will work:
First of all,I will need the following details from you: full name, full shipping address and ph number so I can forward them to Amazon Payments.

They will process your info and send both of us invoices. On the invoice you will find all the instructions on how to complete the transaction.
Once the payment is completed the shipping process will be started( on my cost I repeat). After you receive the range you will have 5 days to test and verify it.

If you decide to keep the range, Amazon Payments will release the money to me and our transaction is complete.
If, by any reason, you won't be satisfied with the range ( even though I can assure you that it is exactly as described), you can return it at my expense for a full refund of your money, no questions asked.

If you agree, please provide your full name and shipping address and I will get everything started immediately.
All you will need to do is follow through with their guidelines. You will receive along with the range all it's documents and manuals.
I have a few guys interested so I'll need a prompt answer from you!
Thank you!

I flagged ad. If a few more of us do that, it will get pulled.

First thing I do it right-click pictures in ads, and have google search them. In this case, and alot of the car scams, they are in other craigslist ads, and I know it's a scam.

When I was buying some small equipment, mini-excavator and kubota tractor, the scams were there too.......

Sad, because so many people will fall for this and lose 2 grand?

Or sad, because this is exactly what you want, and here it is, offered on a scam-mail?

SCadaddle 12-01-2015 10:06 AM

Viking is a product of the Mississippi Delta region. Chances are you didn't want this in your home anyway.

Jackson Jambalaya: Was the Viking sale another Mississippi hustle?

I would like to think no one is stupid enough to lose the $2K.

Because I could have done great things with that range. I have a great 30" Kitchen Aid now but it's hard to do dinner parties with.

Wow, interesting. Looks like you should start checking out Wolf ranges Shaun!

Any of them that ask for you to email them directly are a scam. They now have your email address that they can sell, because it was no longer masked by Craigslist. Everything else is just gravy at that point.

And yet...here we have exhibit "A" to let us know that people will still bite...

Todays scammer was a real beauty ! I am trying to sell my biz partners old grand cherokee . It has 200k, and needs a trans, and axle bearings. I am trying to get $500.00 for him ( all I really want is the damn thing off my lot ) .
After texting back and forth a few times with a potential buyer who's area code I did not recognize , I asked them if it was alright if I called them .
They replied that they were deaf, and blind, and could not carry on a phone conversation.
I wanted to know how a blind person could text me, and why would a blind person be purchasing a broken jeep. The replies stopped.

I'm pretty upset about a recent scam I ran across too. Found a machine "for sale" for a stellar price. Yep, turned out to be a scam. German friend figured it out after lookign up the name. Person has scammed a bunch of people. Used the exact same story with me, too... bummer.

Well, they got your email which is the most common scam on CL these days. You never, ever comply with a request to email someone at another address they provide. Just use CL's masked email, (which works as well as any other), or text.

Anything I post for sale on CL automatically gets a text asking me to email some other address. If I do reply, (which is pointless), I ask what is wrong with texting? It's obviously working fine?

It's all just a big email addresse mining scam these days.

They are getting better at the game, but I am so conditioned to suspect foul play with the wrong wording, answers, or demands, that I doubt that I will ever fall for one of thier scams. Unfortunately, there are alot of naive, newbies out there with more money than I ever had

No worries, just get a used commercial range, it won't cost any more than that and they should be pretty common as well as easily repairable.

We have a Viking range. Love it. Never had any issues.

Isn't there an issue with insulation/insurance for using a commercial product in a non-commercial environment? I'd be very interested in looking into this...Vulcan? or what manufacturer would you recommend? Never really liked our Viking.

charlesbahn 12-02-2015 10:43 AM

I've got the Wolf range in that size- it would be a beyond believable deal if true.
If you go for such a range, you need a really good hood/blower and it will need to be designed with "make up" air.

Charles
