Did Google forget it's Hanukkah?

Google is my home page and it seems every other day, they've got some special treatment for the logo and certainly do on holidays. Today is the first day of Hanukkah and it's the standard google logo. Seems odd.

Anyway, Happy Hanukkah!

Can't offend anyone Shaun, God forbid a touchy Muslim sees a dradle and goes all Jihad on Google HQ. Happy Hanukkah!

masraum 12-07-2015 04:02 AM

Not only the start of Hanukkah, but also Dec 7, a date which will live in infamy. Within about 1/4 mile of me is the AIG building. There's a HUGE flag on top of the building and it's flying at half mast today. It took a second for my brain to realize why.

It is very surprising that Google isn't doing anything for either one or somehow, both.

Holger 12-07-2015 04:15 AM

Well, then the Google logo would be showing several thousands of items every day, because they would need to cover every important holiday or the like, who will decide which one is more important then another?
Be happy on the occasions when they have a new funny and interesting logo. No need for that every day IMHO.

I like to get surprised, I dont expect them to cover all days important to me.

Tobra 12-07-2015 04:49 AM

Haanukkah and December 7 are both pretty big. It is probably because Google is evil.

That. They cover some crazy stuff, both Hannukah and Dec 7 are the kinds of thing that they usually cover.

Based on a quick google search. I found a couple of websites that say that Hannukah started yesterday, not today. I didn't look at it's logo yesterday. Maybe the OP is just a day off.

Per the Internet, Hannukah started yesterday. I'm not Jewish or that familiar with the details of Hannukah, so I've got to go with that. Are you maybe a day late, Shaun?

I posted yesterday.

I'm not Jewish either but went to Brandeis, still have a lot of friends from college who have bestowed honorary Jew status upon me as "a real mensch."

We were talking about it last night.

Porsche-O-Phile 12-07-2015 05:02 AM

It's funny - years ago Google used to only do this for occasional events, major holidays and the occasional odd one or semi-obscure anniversary date. Made it interesting. I used to actually save the images as kind of a hobby, then it kinda jumped the shark and they started doing silly animations and stuff for every single day it seemed like - now it's not special at all. It's more annoying than anything. Oh well - "too much of a good thing"...

So you did. Duh. I guess I need to pay better attention.

Still, weird that Google skipped it.

Archives of their Doodles. You can see what they did last year as well.

She's my wife's favorite singer!
No, wait... that's Chaka Khan.

Porsche-O-Phile 12-07-2015 01:51 PM

Where's that Adam Sandler song when you need it?

Shaun @ Tru6 12-07-2015 01:59 PM

Second post last night.

Sorry, I can't figure out how to embed the video from my phone. Normally I would not just post the link.

You are a righteous pagan goyim. That's it. Went through the Shaker Heights vetting process for non Jews by Mom and Dad and brother. I passed but bailed.

See 1:45 in. This chick has no boundaries. Very funny.

Would pet.

Maybe Google is part of the 99% anti-semantic group.

It's the War on Hanukkah, don't ya know?

It probably wasn't the dreidel. I hear you can make serious coin if you are good with a spin.

stomachmonkey 12-09-2015 03:49 AM

Hanukkah is not one of the big holy holidays.

It does not have a lot of religious significance.

It gets attention because it falls so close to Christmas.

Rich76_911s 12-09-2015 06:24 AM

If you look at the link above it doesn't appear that Google ever celebrates any religious holidays.

For example here is Dec. 25 2014. If you scroll to the bottom of the page you'll see what it has been in years past. Has a winter scene and is holiday-ish, but no reference to the actual holiday. Certainly no nativity scene or any reference to the actual religious associations for the holiday.

Holidays 2014 (Day 3)

Easter, as far as I can tell, has no reference on the Google Page. The one exception I saw to the non-religious rule is St. Patty's day.

I don't think they make any references to religious days. Neither should we on this forum. :)

More ignorance.

What has OT come to?

Be prepared to be offended

Happy belated Thanksgiving

We've become a bunch of politically correct pussies, terrified to paralysis by the slight chance that our words might offend someone. So in that theme, Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, Happy Kwanza, Happy Festivus!

Porsche-O-Phile 12-10-2015 04:36 AM

For crying out loud...

It's Christmas. It has no particular religious significance for me but it's an excuse to be happy, spend time with people, show a little kindness and have the world be a bit nicer and more pleasant for a few weeks - there's nothing wrong with that.

I suppose we could always call it the "pagan festival of the winter solstice hijacked by the early church to supplant their cultural beliefs by arbitrarily assigning Christ's birth to that day" Day but it doesn't really roll off the tongue as easily. ;)

I bet that girl above is crazy in bed. And just crazy.

wdfifteen 12-10-2015 07:52 AM

Sarah Silverman, boy has that girl got a potty mouth. Her standup routines are so gross I can't watch them. Jimmy Kimmel dumped his wife to marry her, so POP's suspicion may be right.

aigel 12-10-2015 12:12 PM

If I ran a website, I wouldn't go there either. You mention one's group's holiday but forget the others? That's the issue at hand here, not PC, I think.
