Ebay / shipping dilemma

Here, this is fun!

I sold an item to a fella in Pacoima for $1000 on eBay.

He paid quick and easy PayPal.

I sent him a friendly note indicating I would ship FedEx Ground.

He said "Cool but please ship 'no signature.' You can insure up to $600 with no signature."

I thought about that for about 3 seconds and

then shipped with full $1000 insurance and signature required. I tried to ship with no signature and $1K insurance, but it seems this fella was right. I only noticed the actual "signature required" qualifier on my receipt as I walked out.

So, he's MIA and tomorrow is the 3rd delivery day and I know he's not going to redirect or anything and I'll see the package back here in a few days minus the $35 I spent.

Do I try to send it back to him, or keep the item for spite and tell him to suck it? I would love the $1k and was looking forward to not owning this thing anymore.

I want to send it back to him, with a safety net.

That safety net = signature delivery, which he is apparently unwilling to deal with.

Technically, it's still "out there", and he could have it held if he takes action tonight or in the morning.

Well that sucks on your part. I would see if they can hold it at a local fed ex ground office, or 24 hour kinkos. But those are initiated by the receiver.

Speaking of Karma, I've really wanted to give you this engine stand and yoke back since like . . . 2010 or whatever.

I wouldn't go that far. ^^ He's protecting himself from loss. A lot of shady people who self steal items. They're ways the buyer can pick up said item, but the no signature is slightly suspicious.

When you get it back it just refund the guy, block him on eBay and relist the item. It's just not worth the headache to fight over.

Like Shaun says, you may be able to redirect the package to be held at a FedEx location close to him until he's available.

Hold at FedEx Location: For Busy Recipients

Sorry but $1,000 item requires a signature.

Especially this time of year when the opportunists are out there following delivery trucks looking for items the drivers leave outside.

Too much risk.

Only other option is "you say no signature, fine, then YOU are out the money if it disappears"

Until he opens a claim with Paypal saying it never arrived.

Does he have alot of feedback on eBay? If not, may be a scam.

Yep. Just had this happen to me with an item I sold that was expensive enough to justify a signature. I think my guy had a case of buyer's remorse and thought if he just didn't sign for it things would resolve themselves. I'm not posting the details, but I got the last laugh in the end.

You have delivery confirmation from the shipper.

Call ebay and talk to them. If you have tracking that says it is delivered it is delivered. Then u are covered under sellers protection.

You should have shipped it as he asked - no signature.

It's not complicated.
