I've found they work best when on the same circuit. There is a USB WIFI dongle available for the 360. http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Xbox-360-Wireless-Network-Adapter/dp/B000B6MLV4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1450034243&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+360+usb+wifi+dongle Alternately, if you have an old WIFI router collecting dust you can replace the firmware with DD-WRT and turn it into a bridge. |
I've never really experienced the kinds of issues mentioned in this thread. I'm only 24 but have been gaming since I was a kid.
I started in dos playing the original mortak kombat, doom, lands of lore, NHL 95 (born in 91). I have a gamining pc but the video card (560 ti) is now to dated to play something like Witcher 3. It's just cheaper to play it on the console. As for updates, put your console into a sleep mode. My ps4 updates automatically. When a huge update is available for a game, I'll grab my 100ft Ethernet cable and take 2 min to run the wire across the house if I'm really impatient. I'll take these minor inconveniences. Ive NEVER had any real issues. |
I would really like to be playing some of the new games for 360 or XB1, but I don't have internet at the house and do not intend to get it. Internet at work is enough for me.
I have not bought a 360 or XB1 because I keep hearing that I won't get to use them much without the internet. And for the same reasons, PC w/steam is not an answer. |

More and more devices are getting to be internet needy.
Several of the high end silly expensive programs we use at work have to "phone home" all the time to work. |
At least Steam has offline mode. It does keep your games up to date.
Humble Bundle also has some great stuff. Last one we got was the Codemasters Bundle. Had some crappy games but got all the Grid/Grid 2/Grid Autosport stuff as well for $15 per person at home. The one before that was Insurgency and Spintires and some other games. $10 per person. All have to be redeemed through Steam though. |
Yup. Thanks for largely confirming it's not in my head ! I would totally understand if I missed out on online updates functionality *if* it let me play "solo" within a few seconds of firing it up. But that is not even an option, that's what really gets me. No internet, no play. I got off steam for that reason too (that and accounts theft, download problems, etc).
When I set up the console initially, it offered to download all the stuff during downtime but I said no (my bad?) because it means it was "on" all the time, and it sounded rather ominous to relinquish all the control. I should have said yes, can't find how to turn that on now (interface again: edit - under the effing power menu!!! how logical for an automatic download setting). As a side note, I miss good PC games too... I can't play those shooters on a controller's mini sticks, I aim too far left, then too far right, no precision at all.... Way more comfortable with ASDW and a mouse ;-( Oh, the P-car was a 68 912, not a 911. I'll still miss her, SWBs don't grow on trees, but I'm seriously out of garage space (it's been replaced by an Alfa GTV). |

Some of them pure junk. Some pure awesome. Would do again if possible. There are many titles I still want to buy in a heartbeat. But, sadly, producers were somehow convinced to turn upon their own customers and view them as enemies. Why would any customer buy anything from their enemy? Why would any producer want to make their fun-products become un-fun? |
Does anyone here have the MotoGP game? I'd like to get it but have never had an Xbox or PS or any such like. My PC is set up for gaming with a core i7. The game comes in a PC version so i'm guessing that means keyboard control? Any input is appreciated.
BTW I'm a gaming nincompoop. |

At 74, I've never been interested in video games. |

South Park, the fractured but whole just sent a 4.5 gig update. Took a week with my crappy satellite internet. And lost all my saved progress. **** Ubisoft. Idiot ass developers rush out a half finished game and then call it “updates”.
But I am addicted to world of tanks now. |

GOG.com is a good place for digital distribution if you don't have to have all the latest/greatest titles. I understand the appeal to try Forza, but there are plenty of good PC racers out there. Project Cars 1 & 2, Assetto Corsa, Dirt series and if you like the subscription model there is iRacing. If you like to just crash stuff, our 8 year old loves BeanNG Drive. Man, I could have written the original post!!! We bought my 8 year-old an xBox One for Christmas last year. What a freakin' nightmare. Admittedly, I am not very smart on this stuff, but where I went wrong was I, A. Created an account for him and then B. Entered his birthday (since it asked me for his birthday). Simple, right?
WRONG. He's only eight!! I had no idea what nightmare rabbit hole that put me down. When it then got to the screen to add a credit card (isn't see that coming), I had to add mine, but it all went to hell at that point. It took us months to get that straightened out. |
