Question for the So-Cal fellas
I watched quite a few Jay Leno Garage videos this rainy weekend, and I wonder how often you guys that live in LA see Jay "going for a drive"
There's dozens of these videos, so it must be pretty common to see him and his camera car out putting something fun through it's paces, right? He seems like he's pretty friendly out there on the road! |
I see him about once every 2 weeks. His cars are by Burbank airport and I see him driving on San Fernando Road or Sunland/ Vineland. Always waves.
|
I live in the OC, pretty far from jay's garage and still see him at least once a year. Usually as some sort of car event.
|
Last time I saw him, it was at Autobooks/Aerobooks, a store in Burbank.
|
I probably see him once or twice a year. Twice while waiting outside The Old Place for a breakfast table. The best sighting was a couple years ago when my wife's mother came out from Charleston, SC. We were in Burbank leaving Porto's when he drove by slowly in a rusty old steam car. He waved at my mother-in-law as he chugged by at about 15 mph.
|
I want to be adopted by Jay.
He is such a cool car guy. Not just car's but anything mechanical. He has the best toys! |
Only seen him once. Was very friendly and loves to talk anything cars.
|
I've never seen him filming but I've seen him maybe a half dozen times. I'm sure if I hung around the Rock Store longer than I do that I could see him more often (he's usually up there mid day while I come in the morning). I've seen the tank car and the jet bike.

LA is a big place so I don't see him out on the road. I did get invited to tour his garage last year and that was a kick. He was very friendly and his car collection is jaw-dropping.

I used to see him up near the Rock Store on Mulholland. Very nice guy.
|
he's often up at the Rock Store and Mulholland Dr. I do know he likes to drive up LaTuna Canyon when he films. I often ride my bike up laTuna, but never seem to see him. Maybe he's going too fast:)
|
I've seen him quite a few times; at the Rock Store, at the Mobil station, the 5 Freeway...
He's very friendly. |
I once saw him at the Dana Point 356 car show.
|
2-3 times a year, now. I lived on Mulholland Drive in the mid-80s/90s and saw him at least once a month, always driving something interesting.
Long ago, I visited the Big Dog Garage with the Norton Owners Club. He was friendly, but got burned out kinda fast after somebody gave him a hard time about his Cobra replica and left in his 18 liter monstrosity. |
When I lived in Beverly Glen canyon back in the '80s/early '90s, I'd see him at the Glen Center on Mulholland or driving almost every weekend. He obviously was working during the week, fooling around on weekends like most people. He lives just a mile or two up the road.
And yes, he really is that nice and friendly. It's just who he is. |
I used to consult to NBC and saw him most days I was there. Very friendly guy.
|
I've met Seinfeld a couple times, exactly opposite.
Very private and shy, hides from crowds and strangers. No, it wasn't just me ;) |
Rock Store on Mullholland.

He even took a pic with my friends Z4 M Coupe. The Corvair was a pretty cool car and he always takes the time to explain the car's history with everyone. My cousin writes jokes for him and has had them used quite often in Jay's monologue when he did the Tonight Show. He acts like he's just one of the guys and makes everyone feel comfortable. Gotta love the guy! |
I work in Sun Valley just off of Sunland Blvd and I live in Big Tujunga Canyon. I see him at least once a week driving a car or riding a motorcycle. He's always very friendly and approachable. Loves to talk anything automotive.
I get those Singer 911s testing and tuning in the area a lot too. |
I wonder how many tickets he gets..I imagine the cops sort of generally look the other way?
It looks like he basically uses the same loop; an industrial area, a busy street in a neighborhood, the neighborhood leading towards the canyon run, the canyon run and a bit of the freeway. Then, the burnouts if it's appropriate. |
I've seen him around LA a number of times and also up at Monterey Car Week. Definitely approachable and genuine compared to nearly all other celeb types I have encountered.
|
He is a good guy
I have run into him enough that he knows me and always says hi!
He kind of makes his rounds to his favorite hang outs. I last saw him also at Autobooks where he was going to pick up some books, but he couldn't carry them on his jet powered motorcycle and was going to go back home and get a car and then come back! Told us how some guy had pulled up too close to the back of his bike a few minutes ago, and Jay said he saw some of the paint blistering on the guys bumper through his rearview mirror so he immediately pulled forward, but the driver of the car also moved forward again and closer! Jay's bike even has an LED screen on the back, constantly scrolling basically jet exhaust, keep back etc.. |

I also have been DVRing his show... IMHO best car show ever. As an native Angelino I have a love/hate relationship with driving... we have some of the best driving (up and down the coast, the hill county, the mountains) and some of the worst (commuting on the freeways). |
