It is kind of iconic, and that is about what a rusty midyear goes for these days so seems about right.

At the risk of sounding a bit blasphemous, I think JJ might be a little overated as an artist. I do like alot of her music, but I dont put it on any higher plain than alot of good 60s music

Whoa that's a piece of change. She also had a 67 S.

Met a gal here in LV that was originally from Oakland who wound up in the Haight in the Summer of Love and was a friend of Joplin.

Joplin was found dead of an over dose of H in a hotel room in LA 6 weeks after she went home to Port Arthur, Texas. She went home as a somebody but they still treated her as a no aēcount nobody and that was what killed her spirit. The rejection was too much, because how much more could she do to win acceptance from them.

I always liked her car. I wonder what it will be worth in 10 years?

That's an icon and a work of art. I can totally see it being worth that. If I had a ton of change, I'd put it in my living room. It beats some painting.

The staggering sale price sets a benchmark as the highest price ever paid for a Porsche 356 at public auction. Pearl, as Joplin was often called, bought the German auto at a used car lot in 1968. She went on to enlist Dave Richards, of Big Brother and the Holding Company fame, in customizing the vehicle with a "History of the Universe" mural. When completed, psychedelic imagery covered the body from headlights to tailights.http://www.nydailynews.com/autos/news/janis-joplin-porsche-sells-record-1-76-million-article-1.2462733

This version of "Ball and Chain" does it for me. She leaves nothing on the stage.

Not blasphemous, you simply don't know what you're talking about. No one who is worth anything in the world of music would call her overrated. She was one in a million, comes along 2 or 3 times a century type of artist.

Cass was a great, great singer and her jaw was on the GD floor at the '67 Monterey Pop Festival when Janis came out and sang.

Janis Joplin was a wounded soul who put her existential angst out on display every time she took the stage. How the fk do you think she was so great, add in Jimi Hendrix, and Jim Morison to the trio.

Aww, she was just loaded. Probably had no idea where she was.

Her music was always a little too trippy for me, there were a few songs I sang along with but definately not my favorites. The car is pretty cool, and really interesting paint job, but there again, not my cup of tea.....probably worth the money to a collector, or fan,

Paint looks too good in recent pics? Was it repainted?

Artwork is not the same if redone.... If I owned it, I think I'd prefer it with the patina from when she drove it.

None the less, a very cool car. Hope the buyer puts it on display, and it's not hiden in a garage. Wish the factory bought it back for the museum.

Good observation. I believe that the paint was painstakingly restored in recent years by some very skilled people. Dave Richards, (original artist), is unfortunately not available to do it.

So you are correct, it is restored. The mint Zipper license plate frames are a nice touch.
