Magazine Subscriptions ??

I have none and a relative asked me which ones I'd be interested in as a gift.

Any opinions ?

Fire away !!

I'm thinking Grass Roots Motorsport, ones of that nature and metal fabrication oriented. Porsche ones as well but not late model stuff.

Whatever you get, you can now get them in digital form to reduce clutter.

I like Hemmings Sports and Exotic Cars.

It is available digitally but I still get the print version.

I used to buy Automobile by subscription but it arrived much later than on the magazine stand. I buy it regularly and pass it on to my son in law when I am done. I particularly like the results of the vintage car auctions...

I have subscribed to Autoweek since the days of pulp and Sach Carlson. I am not going to renew again.

It should be called Auto-some-random-time-per month. It is supposed to come every two weeks but they can't even manage that reliably. The columnists are pitiful. They have entire issues devoted to SUVs or pickups and 1/2 a page about F-1 race from a month to 6 weeks ago.

Great magazine

Grassroots is worth reading, as is their Classic Motorsports version.

I really like the idea of cleaning up the clutter but still like old fashioned version for photos and portability.

ckelly78z 12-16-2015 06:56 AM

Yes, "Grassroots Motorsports" is good as well as it's siter publication "Classic Motorsports" which gets into the older sportscars.

When I was sharing a flat with a couple of roommates, my brother ordered up a subscription to Cat Fancy magazine in my name.

In my unbiased opinion ( :D ) these are the best three magazines of their respective genres.

Vintage Truck magazine - Vintage Truck Magazine -

I still get Popsci, and it is good to thumb through occasionally but I won't renew, its gotten much thinner these days. Panorama is good when you have time to read it.

I don't subscribe to anything else though. Get enough crap to throw away or pile up in the mail. Read about any article I want online....

Even though Pete Stout is gone, excellence (all Porsche content) is still a good mag. It covers old and new.

Road and track has really changed if you haven't looked at it in a while

HardDrive 12-16-2015 10:37 AM

I get The Economist and Wired. I won't be renewing Wired.

first, i stare at a screen at work all day. want to relax with print once in a while.

second, a year's subscription to something like Motorcyclist is $6.

third, i have a fireplace, so the clutter sorts itself out.

fourth, i might already be a winner.

I dropped both those but kept Vintage Motorsport - The Journal of Motor Racing History

Go for broke and suggest EVO or Octane, which are about triple what a US mag would be, while being very, very good. My only current print subscriptions are Cycle World ($12) and Motorcyclist ($6).

Not automotive specific, but WIRED is fantastic..
