The Best US Regions to be a Porsche Owner

All,

I live in Southern California, north of Los Angeles.

No doubt that this area as most of California is a Porsche owner's playground. Back roads, canyons, tracks (less but still there) Porsche support and other enthusiasts.

With that said what other areas of the Country are close to this advantage.

Not to get into any negativity, but to get an idea (especially from California ExPats) of what else is out there.

I am hoping that folks can share their driving and vehicle support opportunities outside of the political and economic experience (which is easier to acess).

Thanks
DanB

Arkansas!!!!

Some of the absolute best roads anywhere. Hwy 7 runs through thick forests and was paved lay of the land like a roller coaster.
Every November "Porsche Palooza is held in Eureka Springs AR. a 4 day event with well over 200 Porsches attending. There is also a large group of Porsche owners from the Dallas area that come up to enjoy the roads and scenery every year.

Pretty hard to beat AZ. Tons of fun roads around the state, driving weather year round, no sales tax on private party used sales, no emissions if registered with classic or collector Insurance. The car scene isn't as active as LA, but it's pretty close in some parts of town.

The PNW is fantastic. Driving the backroads of the Cascade mountain in WA/OR is not to be missed.

I have spent a lot of time in the wilds of eastern Washington State and Oregon the past six months. I am headed back to speak at the WSU Precision Ag Conference in January.

I always look for the thin black lines on the map. HD is right: They are real and they are spectacular.

Anywhere that your car is put away for a real winter. When spring arrives you really enjoy getting behind the wheel.

I used to say;

"It's hard to make an argument against Angeles Crest Hwy and the Santa Monica Mountains (e.g. Mulholland, Decker, Stunt, Encinal, Latigo, etc) as the best place in the country to own a Porsche"

…But those days are long gone. The CHP and sheriff patrol here so heavily now that breaking 45 mph is almost a guaranteed ticket. They even stop you for no front plate! Even the weekdays are patrolled now. Sure, if you want to be a poser at the Rock Store or get your picture taken at "The Snake", it's great…But for spirited driving, nor anymore.

I think Georgia is pretty good. Nice year round climate for the most part with great mountain roads all over the place. Specifically north GA. so you can take a quick jaunt to Tenn. to the West or N.C. to the east it's not a bad place to be !

Would agree with Harddrive re:PNW. The winter rain isn't ideal, but during the summer it's great roads, a couple tracks, and a good P-car community (at least in the two major metro areas).

New England, though, is an automotive wasteland.

officer stout on the angeles crest and i knew each other well. and maron. and rodriguez.

ridge route is probably closed forever. and every time i go back through there's a new housing development choking off what used to be a great deserted canyon road.

it was magnificent while it lasted though.

Funny, I was going to say anywhere you don't have to put it away for the winter is the best place.

It was a little cooler that 60 today and I was out with the top off of the Targa.

I think I would get mildly depressed not driving my cars. Those cars are like my own Prozac.
