Static bursts from computer speakers
 
The speakers connected to my Mac mini have started making intermittent static noises. This is with all applications closed. Any idea what to check, what's wrong here?

Poor connection.

Loose wiring.

Plug not set in jack correctly.

External interference, I used to hear my cell phone "ring" through the computer speakers before the phone itself.

Portable phone handset will do it as well as a wireless (wifi) router.
