Opinions on 2013 Chevy suburban

One my way to possibly buy a 2013 Chevy suburban LT Z. I pulled a 23 foot boat on a regular basis and need the space for baseball equipment and all the other stuff that goes with having kids involved in sports. What is the consensus here on these trucks? I have read some scary stuff about the AFM and oil's starvation. I don't see a lot of other options for an SUV that can tell a lot. The Toyota Sequoia is OK looking but crazy expensive even used. I don't care for the Ford SUVs either.

I did look at a Dodge ram 1500 but I already have a nice pick up, a 2006 Toyota tundra, and don't think I want to new payment just to have another pick up.

I've dealt with BCM failure, driver's door module failure, and HVAC mix door actuator problems.

Most involved repair I've done to one like the Suburban you're looking at was replacing the front differential bearings.

I'd say it's no worse than what Ford offers, but a lot better than a Dodge Durango, or a new Jeep with a V8.

Edit:

I have replaced a transmission in a '12 Silverado, FWIW... 6L80 I think it was, and it requires a laptop to initialize when installed.

Our 2000 Burb was bullet proof two window motors under warranty then 13 years and 180K miles of light offroad, big camper towing, groceries and general abuse the entire time. Nothing except tires and oil changes.

The kids tore it up worse than the road did. Still ran fine when I sold it.

It would be my pick for a big family rig.

Sister bought a Yukon xl. Around the same year. Good truck for towing, and hauling a bunch of kids. Check all the fluids when you buy it, my local gm dealer tried to pass off a used Yukon with black trans fluid.

Have a Tahoe and a Yukon.

One in 4 wheel the other 2.

Fantastic trucks.

The single biggest point of failure for both have been window regulators, rears most commonly.

Did both for the second time on the Tahoe over the summer and just did the passenger rear on the Yukon first time yesterday.

You can pick up regulators with motors for ~$50-75 all day long.

15 minute and a half a beer job start to finish.

Other than that, they've been rock solid.

Bought the Tahoe new off the lot in 01', well over 100k on it these days.

Wife won't let me get rid of it and personally I don't want to either.

I had an '01 Tahoe with the 5.3, it did a lot of towing and handled it ok, for what it was. Had to replace the blower motor, which wasn't too bad.

Does the newer Burb have the bigger motor, isn't it a 6.2L?

When we were doing heavy drone ops in the West during 2013 we always rented Suburbans. I cannot speak from an ownership position but they are lovable beasts...there is nothing I didn't like about them other than gas mileage and parking.

They are BIG.

Enjoy.
