What in the heck is this?
Got a strange gift. I don't have any idea what it is for.

It's a dollar bill...go on a WILD spending spree :D
An ashtray maybe...I dunno. |
The green thing looks like a tile to me. I am sure I am wrong
|
Hmm, the "bowl" looks like cast iron, and the "tile" looks like steel with enamel.
Almost looks like it could be used to cast metal, but I don't think that's right. Interesting. I suspect we'll have an answer before too long. |

Found your reddit post.

Cigar or pipe ashtray.
|
Sorta looks like some kind of baking or cooking pan.

That is my guess as well. |
It would work for a bacon press to make it cook flat and be able to pour off the rendered fat. But there are better examples of that out there.
|
A mold for casting bullets?
|
It the original mold to cast muffler bearings!
|
I will agree, pipe and cigar ashtray.
Insert out, cigars. Insert in, pipe can lay in there on the glazing unscratched. |
I have a crazy idea. Ask whoever gave it to you.
I am going with ashtray |
spoon rest while cooking?
|
I'm going with ashtray and the smaller piece is the cover for when after you have filled it up with ash, put the top o to transport to the garbage or what ever they used to put ashes in.
|
The person who bought it found it at a thrift store and has no idea what it is either. Ash tray sounds most logical so far.
|
I'm guessing it's something to do with Japanese cooking and Sushi.
Maybe to strain a special sauce? |
Man what a great gift idea!
It will literally take you one year to figure it out, just in time for next Christmas!
