From Saskatoon to LA - journey to better weather

well, I just finished driving from Saskatoon Saskatchewan (up in Canada) down to Los angeles. It's been interesting. about an hour north of Las Vegas I lost an idler pully on my truck (5.4 triton), caused the belt to lose a few ribs, which wrapped around my fan and destroyed both cam position sensors. Managed to to limp it into vegas and found an autozone, back on the road!

In Los angeles now, will be attending the new years day meetup at TRE tomorrow. Any cool stuff to see or do that's automotive related around here? Will be dropping off some parts at Pelican, so I'll stop there.

If anyone sees the Canadians tomorrow at TRE, say hi!

PS: the palm tree inn near TRE is super sketchy, glad we found a holiday inn nearby, although $250 a night seems pricey for a Holiday Inn, haha.

You will be Porsche overload tomorrow. Everyone and their mother will be there. I have gone in some time, actually do not miss it anymore because there are a few lead foot drivers out. I hear there are a bunch of none Porsche out with them. Enjoy yourself and our Christmas lights on palm trees. SmileWavy A couple of my cousins caught that. They are from Wayburn and Moosejaw.

Cool! I live a few hours north of weyburn and Moose Jaw, but have visited both a few times! I'm really hoping someone lets me hop in the passenger seat tomorrow!

show up and talk to DAve early and ask him if he would make an announcement that you are visiting from out of town and like to go for a ride along. I am sure someone will be more then happy to do that for you.

Things worked out very well, had an awesome time on the drive! Dave was great, and let me ride shotgun with him. Went and spent the rest of the day at universal studios.

Hoping to find other cool Porsche related activities to do while I'm down here. around for a few more days, heading out late on the 4th or early on the 5th.

Check out the renovated Petersen Museum. There's a small collection of Porsche racecourse there.

Also, on Sunday morning (roughly 8-10 am), there's Supercar Sunday over at the Westfield Topanga Mall in Woodland Hills. From where you are, take 405 south to 101 west, exit Topanga and go north for about a mile. Macy's parking lot on the right.

The best automotive bookstore in the country is in Burbank. I forget the name but it should be easy to track down.

Go down the street and fight the crowds but do have lunch at Portos. I think its Cuban. Great sandwiches and a ton of sweets stuff. Its worth the fight, I mean wait.

Portuguese IIRC.^^ And you're right: there's a reason the line literally runs out the door and down the block.

Back in Canada! Drove 30 hours straight to make it back in time for a family gathering, aside from some rather terrible weather in Utah and Montana it was a pretty good drive.

Had a really great time, the TRE drive was by far my favorite part (the rest was mostly touristy stuff).

Was a pleasure meeting a bunch of fellow Porsche nuts. Got a lot of strange looks, everyone was wearing heavy jackets, hats, and gloves, I was in a t-shirt blasting through canyons in a convertible with the top down, hahaha.

This little thing was probably my favorite:
