New Porsche Ad: forget the past

thought it would be interesting to see what folks think of this new ad direction Porsche is taking:

It makes me want to go for a drive; in my car from the past.

Cool ad. I like the rear end. The front is OK too. If I could afford something new, I'd probably be driving a GT3 or GT4, and then maybe have a Macan or Cayenne for the missus. And then have a couple of old air cooled cars in the garage for the weekends.

Forget the past? Why are they showing us a 911? I like Porsche ads too but how about a clean slate, completely new sports car.

The fallacy is they would not have a future if it wasn't for the past.

Porsche realized that many (dare I say most?) of the classic owners are not buying (or buying into) the new high priced gadget-laden luxury cars they sell. Form follows function has been replaced with Form follows marketing and cost to build. They have to find a new market to sell to.
Try going to a dealer repair dept and ask questions about air cooled cars. They'll tell you they have a nice toy in the Boutique and a calendar in parts.

They need to tell their dealers this tidbit about their classic 911 owners. Three times I visited the Porsche dealer in San Antonio and three times they missed a perfect opportunity to sell me a new 911 and three times they missed following up with a promised call that would have resulted in a sale. I finally ordered a new Mercedes.

The best part of that ad was watching the water cooled engine fade away... lol

------------------

To me the current 911 looks like something Toyota could have produced. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it's just not that special anymore.

My old 78 SC still provides hours of permanent smile time and it's only going one way in value.

I don't understand the message in the ad. I think Porsche is more confused than me.

You all, for the most part are seeing it the same way i did- why would they do an ad like this?
unless it is produced by folks who are just out of diapers and have no clue of the history and heritage?

I have yet to drive a car designed from the start with airbags that has a soul. There is a dividing line in street cars.

I had a 2015 911 for a day, and for a modern car, it was pretty amazing. It lacks a certain something my '44 has, but the 2015 is comfortable, better handling, more power, such is what cars are today. If I could of bought that 911, I would of. I ended up with something modern and more affordable, but the 911's base balance suits me so much, the seed is planted.

I attended a couple of the Landmark forums ten years ago. The ones that are leveraged off the originals where you peed your pants because you could not take bathroom breaks. Intent was to break you down and make you realize that you ain't caca, and from now forward your past is meaningless and you actions from this second forward "make you", not the past.

They quoted Shakespeare, some passage about how the road ahead is dimly lit by lanterns from the past. The intent was for you to ixnay that mentality and focus on point forward action/choices.

Maybe this is the message? The ad is obscure.

I guess I don't get the ad. I'm not sure what the message is supposed to be.

Message seems clear... They are not resting on their laurels... Making a better sports car regardless of past success. YMMV if that is true for you

uhh still looks like a 911 from the past.

I understand what they're trying to do, but it's the past that makes Porsche.. well Porsche.

It's just an ad. Fun to watch and curious about how the company evolves in the coming years with new tech and restrictions being thrown at them.

My heart will always be with the past as I love my smelly 930 on race fuel

I think this is their intent. They have a target market and we ain't it. Some here have the financial nut, but most, no. Not a crime to not have $100k+ play money.

If they didn't have a past they would never put the engine in the rear.
