That's the smartest thing that you can do. I'd move to another city before I picked up the cheque. Close all social media and disappear like a fart in the wind.
If I was found all I would give anyone was the same opportunity to win the lottery.
I'd give them a free lottery ticket.

Racerbvd 01-04-2016 06:52 PM

Well, 1st thing that I would do would see my attorney & CPA, get the important details worked out & protection BEFORE cashing in the ticket.

The 1st thing I would spend money on would be to send my Mother to Japan and any of the other places left on her bucket list.

Sadly, I couldn't stop working, as too many people rely on us, so I have to stay working.

I'd work on a huge shelter for animals who need help.
Funny, I was talking to a buddy the other day, he suggested that I make a mausoleum out of all my Fuchs and be buried with my rims. I told him that won't happen as my Porsche stuff is to be sold off and money (providing that my Mother isn't still alive) and give it to various "No-Kill" shelters and to my Masonic lodge, to help some of the younger guys.

2015 Porsche 962

fuel: gas
title status: clean
transmission: manual

safety tips
prohibited items
product recalls
avoiding scams
I have a Porsche 962 (street legal project).

It's 100% authentic Porsche parts, except the custom built tube chassis.

All work has been performed by a top Porsche racing shop.

I currently have $100K in parts and labor in it.

I will get a breakdown of all parts/costs invested so far and what parts are needed to complete it.

When finished, the car should weight around 2200 pounds. You could go all out with a twin turbo Porsche engine 700-1000 hp or just drop an inexpensive corvette motor in it.

The shop can provide a title for the car, so it will be easy register.

Asking $75K / negotiable - will consider all offers.

SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY! DO NOT WASTE MY TIME!

Take a look at last 2 pictures as, it is what a finished car can look like. Guaranteed to turns heads.

I'd buy this, full period resto, with maybe a modern LS drivetrain and tourqe thrusts.

Unfortunately, that can't happen. a stipulation when you win the lottery is you agree to be used in advertisements, promotions, etc. You just need to learn to say NO. Real money people have trusts set up, etc. If someone wants something they need to apply. The trust reviews the request and agrees or declines.

Now onto the question. I assume winning the lottery is a substantial sum? In today's world winning even a few million isn't really life changing. I will assume winning the lottery would be a sum similar to the current power ball? I would take the annuity vs. the lump sum. The annuity guarantees long term income can be used as collateral to borrow, can be willed and the money is taxable as received. The lump sum is taxable up front.

First I would invest in real estate projects in areas I like to visit/vacation. Several boutique hotels around the world NYC, Boston, London, Parris, Charleston, SC, maybe a Castle in Ireland, a hunting lodge in Alaska, a thoroughbred farm in VA, MD, and a vintage yacht in the Mediterranean. They would all be income producing. When I visit it would be a tax write off. They would also provide income.

Some must haves would be a NART Spyder, 550 spyder, 288 GTO, a Maserati Ghibli, Lotus 49. There are others but they are my must haves.

My pet project (yes that is play on all the people that would help animals). I would set up and fund an organization to defend and protect fathers and children from the abuses of the family court system. Have attorneys on staff to court sit. File complaints against judges and sue unethical attorneys, probation officers and custody evaluators.

porsche4life 01-05-2016 03:29 PM

First project would be our shipping container house in the mountains... Then the shop to go with it!

After that... Probably a few cars!

Depends on the state. Some let you remain anonymous and some let a trustee collect the prize.

I would buy a huge warehouse.
Build two soundproof rooms.
One with a drum kit, amps, and my guitars... and a pretty nice digital recording studio.
One with the (almost) best analog two channel equipment Ian can get me (to spin my vinyl).
Fill the rest of the warehouse with cars (and of course a coupe lifts), a few interesting projects and a couple of nice drivers... maybe a 996 targa and a Tesla to start off for drivers... project cars would be all pre 1970.

LEAKYSEALS951 01-05-2016 04:10 PM

When I posted this thread, I had no idea there was a big lottery going on.
I never really buy lottery tickets, but after an interesting day at work, thought...
"WTF"

..so when I win tomorrow- I'm buying a round of torque thrust for everyone! :D
(my favorite rim)

oh.. yeah... speaking of torque thrust- there's an old friend I need to find and make something right about:

They close out the story on Netflix. The entire show is there as well. I liked that show. Vic was hot

Since we are all dreaming, I'd do as others said and get my financial and legal affairs in order, then build a house in the mountains on a lake and a house on the beach. Both with enough garage space to store a few cars nice P cars.

I'd also buy another 930 or two. One for the track and one for the road.

I'd keep working to stay busy but not full time.

How much moolah we talkin??

Yeppers, wife and I watched the whole series on Netflix... funny because I saw a few shows on TV and got hooked, talked her into trying it (she was all "what the heck is Longmire?!?)

Then of course she was addicted and we had to watch the whole series.

Seeing as this thread is titled "what project would you take one" I left out the obvious that any of us would first get our finances in order.

I think I too would continue working... I have a pretty cool job but it doesn't pay for $hit... and with the Tesla I could use the HOV lane!

As far as project cars I would pass on the "collectables"... I love Mustangs, Camaros, Porsches, etc. but even if I were rich not sure I could handle paying 10-20 times what they were selling for back when I was in high school. There are plenty of oddball fun cars out there to own that don't bring that premium price. For instance there is a suicide door thunderbird for sale locally.

I would probably spend more time in and on building/working on the studio and recording music.

Yeah, not only never win, but never break even.

One of the projects I thought about was opening a full-sized indoor hockey rink in my home town. It would absolutely be a money-loser, I am sure. But after having watched how much fun kids have playing hockey, I'd love to spread that fun around. I'd try and make the place self-supporting, but having a place where kids could go to learn to skate, and play hockey, and for folks to go in the summertime to cool off? That would be really cool. Pun intended.

Old minesweeper? What would you make it into? Luxury world-cruising yacht?

ckelly78z 01-06-2016 10:44 AM

Powerball is currently at $450 million (with a pinky nail to the corner of my lip). It could be fun being Dr. E-Vil for awhile !

Truth be known, I would try to help as many good, deserving, (not expectant) people as possible who need assistance.

SilberUrS6 01-06-2016 11:00 AM

$450,000,000 is pretty good. If you take a lump sum, it's $275 million. Subtract State and federal income taxes. So, that leaves you with what, $150,000,000 in the clear? Or, if you like, take $15,000,000 per year for the next 30 years. That's the annuity.

Well, I might be able to scrounge $2.00 from the ashtray of my daily driver...

And I'll ignore the 1:392+ million odds against. ;)

Oh No! Is that the Calypso?

You have better odds of being hit by lightning twice on the same day in two different countries. No thanks. Fun to dream but I'm not a sucker.
