SoCal guys, how are you doing in the rain, we had some carnage

Gutters and drainage paid off from a few years ago. Even spent $150 having a few drains rooted out. 2-3" here in the last 24 hours. Did have a fatality, a gopher in the Spa. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1452137532.jpg

Saw some snow up on Angeles Forrest Highway on my way home. Awesome weather!

Cooper911SC 01-06-2016 08:52 PM

My Orange trees are loving it!
Chickens are irritated and want out of their aviary...squawk squawk! Cluck cluck cluck.

Only downside is basement started taking on water. Had to tarp over the door.

All is well otherwise!

The rain was no problemo.

Evans, Marv 01-06-2016 09:51 PM

No problem here sofar. My wife says the underground around the house are freeways of drain pipes. If we have more serious rain, I hope they continue to serve their purpose well. We have a slight chance for some snow, which would be nice.

Out goofing off skiing with my kids up here in Yosemite. A ton of snow up here and a few accidents on the way to the ski lifts. Thanks goodness for 4WD. No need to crawl under the truck to chain up in that sloppy slush. Talked with my folks at home, no issues but a heck of a lot of rain.

We have been in two road closure since this past Monday up here. Man, I sure hope the 5 is open come this Friday because we will be coming through that evening. I have never been on or near it when it snows. It must be a mess with dumb drivers all over and their bald summer tires trying get over the pass.

Brando 01-06-2016 11:29 PM

Not bad. Our San Diego office went home early due to the hurricane warnings, but us in Orange County just had wet & slippery roads.

sammyg2 01-07-2016 06:32 AM

I got a little wet ...

and then this happened:

We are planning to rebuild.

So will this be the drought buster?

Targa Me 01-07-2016 06:58 AM

Drought end depends on the snow pack up in northern CA. So we'll see how things go.

Rain hasn't been a problem so far. We purchased a new home in October and since then have discovered the patio leaks a little bit, no biggie. I will reshinkle in summer.

Scott Douglas 01-07-2016 07:05 AM

We've had this much from the first storm, and an equal amount is in the gauge this morning from the second.
This may not end the drought as most of the reservoirs up north are really low and I've heard they'll need 150%+ of the normal snow pack to start to make a dent in the shortfall.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1452179068.jpg

I have a patent pending on how I keep the water from coming out of the gauge.

Drought-buster? Not a chance, unfortunately. We would need many more of these, plus the promise of continued rains in coming years, for that to happen - we'd need something like 150 percent of average rain and snow, as measured in April. As it is, if this winter brings enough rain and snowfall to fill, or mostly fill, our reservoirs, especially Shasta, that will go a long way toward at least alleviating the pressure somewhat. But the weather scientists already are saying that the next few years are trending toward La Nina years (I have no idea how they can know such things) and if that's right, then there probably would be continued dryness. At least here where Mrs. String and I live, we got 2.7 inches of rain in the last few days. Our yards, including grass, shrubs and trees, like it very much. And the streets around us did just fine.

It's not going to replenish the aquifers to any significant degree.

campbellcj 01-07-2016 07:33 AM

All is well here. I had to pay to get some deck drains rooted-out. Our re-roof from summer 2014 is solid, whew. We have minor leaks in my business' new office's roof though. The power blacked-out very briefly at both home and office.

mikester 01-07-2016 08:26 AM

Minor roof leak where my solar was recently installed but the company came out to fix it last night which was crazy response time in my opinion.

So far I can't say enough good things about SolarCity.

My avocado orchard is LOVING this! Plus, every time it rains I save $100 on my water bill :D

I was out yesterday in rain gear and fishing boots digging some run-off trenches and clearing debris. In September I put down 4 inches of new wood chips in the orchard (an avocado necessity in dry years). We didn't get enough light rains to soak it down and settle it into the soil. Yesterday about a ton of it washed down the hill. Dry wood chips are easy to spread. Wet wood chips break your back!

speeder 01-07-2016 08:41 AM

Looks like heading to Tahoe tomorrow for a few days skiing. Should be excellent.

Oranges? Chickens? Basement? You must live in Orange Park Acres?
