RIP Lemmy

Checked.

Appears legit.

His twitter account is confirming it.

RIP

Wow - 3 threads started? I'll post on the first one by time stamp...

This is sad. It affects us in a strange way. All our musicians are dying away. He had some rough miles on him and while it is sad, 70 is a hell of an age with that lifestyle, compared to many many others who perished much earlier.

They just had his 70th BD party here in LA very recently. I didn't go but saw a lot of posts on FB from people who did. Oh well, RIP buddy.

Wow, sorry to hear about that. I saw them during High school at the Palladium in Hollywierd with Korkus opening. I can't believe he's 70. I remember seeing him hanging around Sunset Strip a few years ago.

Last time I was in LA I stopped at the Rainbow for a drink. He was on tour. Rumor was he lived just up the hill from the bar. Staff was friendly and the vodka was good.

Early reports are it was an aggressive cancer.

He passed at home playing that video poker game sitting on the bar in your pic..

Allegedly The Rainbow had sent it over to his apartment.

He was looking pretty rough at recent appearances and, well, let's face it - he wasn't a role model for good, clean living. He packed a lot into 70 yrs, that's for sure. I mean, how do you get any more street cred than starting out as a roadie for Jimi Hendrix?

Let's NOT have a moment of silence in honor of Lemmy, while he's on his way to the next gig.

Rest in peace.

I met him before a gig at the Living Room in RI back in the mid 80's just when Fast Eddy left. He was hanging out in the front bar drinking a Bud and playing pinball between the sound check and going on stage. He was an ugly mfer up close but just a regular guy.

My ears were ringing for three days after that show....

I never heard of the dude until he died. I hated metal my whole life so I did some cursory research on him and the various iterations of metal, including the history and folklore.

Committed music. The power chords, the percussion, the sub verbal guttural voices, the volume. The whole shot.

Conclusion: 'Whatever.'

What I do find fascinating is the connection between metal and classical. Yep classical, like my beloved Beethoven. Go figure.

FWIW: Inside Lemmy's Last Days | Rolling Stone

Head and neck cancer.

From NIH :

Head and neck cancers are cancers that start in the tissues and organs of the head and neck. They include cancers of the larynx (voice box), throat, lips, mouth, nose, and salivary glands.

Most types of head and neck cancer begin in squamous cells that line the moist surfaces inside the head and neck (for example, the mouth, nose, and throat).

Tobacco use, heavy alcohol use, and infection with the human papillomavirus (HPV) increase the risk of many types of head and neck cancer.

Lemmy was more than just the music.

He was a fascinating individual, an icon.

The last dinosaur of an era he had a significant hand in creating.

There is a documentary Lemmy: The Movie

You see a lot of his apartment in LA.

It's a 2 bedroom dump that he's lived in for decades but the guy is worth 10's of millions of dollars.

He likes the place because it's down the street from The Rainbow which has a video poker machine he likes to play for hours on end.
