Finished a new / old project...

Started building this cabinet in '85 whilst at the Wendell Castle Workshop as a student. Finally got around to finishing it... only took me 30 years...
Walnut solid and veneer, Ebony bits 'n pieces. Cordial Cabinet:

Now I have to build a base for it... hopefully won't take another 30 years...

I suppose I have drawings somewhere - was pencil on paper in those days. I also took some shots of it apart when I was finishing it last week. Pretty cool bearing system it rides on. Thrust bearing below - ball bearing above. I'll go through and post some of those when I have a chance.

Charles,

I see you're in Portland, have you checked out Bridge City Tools? Awesome stuff, I can't stop buying it- using it, well, work has been kicking my backside, so shop has been gathering dust, not making it.

Best,
Rutager

Many thanks all, it was and is a fun piece. I still need to dig in the archives for drawings and plans. It was all manual drafting back then. I've found a couple of snapshots of it during construction and took more when it was apart last week, which I still have to download from the camera...
Gluing up one of the panels:

Shaping panel with a hand plane. For the insides of the panels I made a japanese style (pull to cut) curved sole plane. Rest was done with scrapers:

I may have more photos from back then. I've been slowly converting my photo archives to digital so they could be in the "not done" pile.

Wow, you must like to sharpen plane irons

Now folks, that's find woodworking right there. I just wish I can make a living doing that. I tried starting out but went nowhere.

I have a question. what did you do during glue up as a stop for that curve since its not a perfect half circle? Is that drawer side Purple Heart?

Got a pic of the curve sole plane? I am fascinated by Japanese hand tools.
