Vitamix vs. Ninja
 

Started making smoothies, healthy ones, not getting any younger and I eat way too much ice cream.

One friend recommended the Ninja Ultima Kitchen System, makes great smoothies, hummus, etc. Seems like a lot of bang for the buck.

We got a Vitamix back in the 70s, long gone, but it's power to liquefy is a strong memory.

I was leaning toward the Vitamix but then found out the Ninja makes hummus (not sure how the VM would handle that). But then learned that the VM makes ice cream. Thanks Randy!

I thought you wanted to stay away from ice cream? lol I have a Nutribullet and it makes great smoothies, and works great in making marinades.

The ice cream is conditional. If I get a pint of HD or Graeter's, I eat it in one sitting. With a VM, I would make my own and make only a half pint. Even better, I would put in the exact amount of extras in it. B&J Cherry Garcia is a favorite but there are too many chocolate chips and that spoils the cherry flavor.

Ninja blender works great but doesn't last. The pitchers get crackly looking, the lids break, I went through two in three years then bought a Vitamix.

Go with the Vitamix. Those things are BEASTS. I have had mine for about five years and I use it for everything.

Reconditioned standard. That's what I got. Cheap(er) and no different from new.

The shorter ones are meant to fit under upper cabinets. They are shorter and wider. You actually want a narrow base, so the taller narrower "standard" is best.

I guess some have built-in "programs". Fooey to that, unless you like automatic transmission Porsches.

Why a narrow base vs. the shorter, wider? I think smoothies, ice cream, sauces and hummus' will be what I'll make most with it.

the preset ice cream program is attractive but I am sure I could duplicate it manually.

the 928 is an auto and supposed to be a better drive than a 5 speed but the 86 coupe I'm getting, of course that will be more fun, I agree.

Narrow base means everything gets pulled through the blades, nothing slips by the sides.

The commercial Vitamix from a restaurant store has less of a warranty, but some people say is slightly more powerful and runs cooler, and the shorter warranty is for expected all day use.

For whatever that's worth.

I think the generally accepted order is something like Vitamix >= Blendtec >> Ninja

i'll pit the blender battle royale between Vitamix and Blendtec..

I have the Vitamix 5200.

We have a vitamix in our commercial kitchen. It gets used multiple times every day and never falters. There is a reason they are the king in commercial food prep.

This is part of the meals we prepped last Sunday. Vitamix used on almost all the recipes.
