What is the purpose of this Craigs list reply??
 

"Hey there2. My name is John. I have been trying to get in touch with you through CL without any response. Is your vehicle still for sale? If so, are there any major problems with it? Lets make sure we can get in touch. Message me directly please - jwr885(atgmailcom) - Also, I am local with cash in hand. Looking forward to speaking with you."

This guy is trying to get me to email him outside of Craig's list. From the wording of the response I'm 99.9% sure this is a scam of some kind. What does he get out of this? How do these guys operate?

I had the exact same thing happen to me over this past summer! (I am in SW Ohio also)At first I thought it was legit, but I received the same basic email from 3 different senders in the first day of my ad.
I did not respond to any of them.

These guys (scammers) send out hundreds of emails. They get flagged in the Craigslist system and Craigslist will not longer work as the communications intermediary. By having you respond to an outside address, they can continue to communicate with you after Craigslist shuts them down.

I would say that 80% of craigslist porsche 911 postings are fraud. They try to scam a deposit out of you one way or another. If it sounds too good to be true it is. I rarely even bother with craigslist anymore because of all the scum trying rob you. If you can't go look at the car in person (bring a weapon) then let it go. The scammers have even infiltrated all the legit car sites by putting up false ads then they ask you for a deposit.

Email address fishing. Sell the list to annoying people to fill your in box with spam.

I responded to the guy through CL. He probably never got it if CL is blocking his address. I told him none of my vehicles have serious problems. Which one was he asking about?
I only have one listed for sale.
