OK..but are you not the country that flipped out over a little tax on tea ? ;)
Or has 25 years of cell phones and facebook totally pussified the nation ?
And since it's all about safety, then handing in your guns are next... right?

I told my 14 year old about this and he was right pissed.

I would definitely NOT like being the driver in that lead truck and having the responsibility of 'towing' a half-dozen cars along like that. The vehicles in the 'platoon' better hope that the lead driver doesn't dose off or make some bonehead move that could get them all killed. I can only imagine the avalanche of lawsuits being filed if something like that should happen. The lawyers would be swarming like flies on a pile of dog chit.

Perhaps I suffer from a lack of imagination but sharing the road with these on my motorcycle might prove to be advantageous to me.

Have you been paying attention to the crap that our government has been shoving down our throats? This is pretty benign in comparison, because I suspect that the average American would LOVE a self driving car.

Platoons are pretty much what traffic between toronto and montreal on the 401 looks like.

One Moto journalist described it as hell's conveyor belt

140m/ hr less than a car length apart for Miles!

140 kilometers per hour....

How smoothly do you thinK that will go over?

;)

i think they will slowly limit the roads that regular cars will be allowed to drive on. like you can ride a horse and buggy on country roads still.
eventually, there will be as little regular cars as there are horses today.

There is already talk of a dedicated road for autonomous trucks from Texas to Michigan.

That would be interesting.

What we need are self driving fatty scooters for all the "crippled" people who bump into me while getting groceries. We don't need another enabling device for the lazy.

1 month after my car accident 3 years ago (4 broken ribs, pelvis shattered in 10 places with a plate/pins/screws, broken sternum and foot) I refused to use one of those "handicap" scooters and actually made pretty good time while shuffling along on a walker.
