I've had "manager" in various titles for the last 15 yrs. Never managed people, though.

You didn't get a written offer with the title in it when accepting the offer???

Yes, but I think it was carried over from the old part time position. This is a new, full time position that involves a lot more responsibilities.

I still don't get it. Did you sign a job offer with CFO on it? Then that's what you will be. Unless you signed a new offer where you got demoted in title.

"Coordinator" is a terrible title in my book. Almost sounds like you aren't doing anything, just come in, consult and leave, once work is coordinated. :)

Agree. In my organization, "project coordinators" are pretty much entry-level positions (essentially project engineers).

It sounds like a small non profit that lacks the rigor of a large structured company with regard to things like job titles. CFO is not likely to happen if it is tiny and the accounting department consists of you or maybe you and a bookkeeper. Coordinator has the wrong connotation. Finance Manager or Director maybe. Something consistent with your peers in the agency.

Titles are CHEAP, especially at a small company. You don't want to have a low level title at a small company. I have seen it many times where a VP from a 30 people company becomes a Sr. Manager at the F500 when he or she changes jobs. There is some title inflation at small companies and you have to keep this in mind when being hired.

IMO titles don't mean much at F500s either ;). As a youngin', I had titles like AVP, Principal, etc. from F500s and couldn't even get a free cup of coffee with 'em SmileWavy
