Mac for a hard core Linux user
So... I've just been given the 27" iMac I asked for 4 years ago here at work. All of my other systems are Linux on PC hardware (well, one Linux on a old G3 iMac)
Just got a fresh install of Yosemite done, doing updates now, then installing stuff - really just need Chrome, a good text editor (sublime?) a SFTP client (FileZilla?), and the OS X dev tools. Any words of wisdom? No, not switching permanently but wanted to get some experience with OS X ... Of course, I hate the wireless keyboard and mouse that came with it, so I've got a PC keyboard and proper multibutton mouse plugged in... can I/should I map that useless Windows key to be the Mac "command" key? |

Stock TextEdit app is fine for most things.
My go to power editor was BBedit (Free version is called Text Wrangler and it's perfect for almost anything.) Bare Bones Software | TextWrangler Lately I've taken a real liking to Brackets. Brackets - A modern, open source code editor that understands web design. For a terminal I use iTerm https://www.iterm2.com/ Filezilla is great for open source FTP but don't discount Cyberduck. https://cyberduck.io/?l=en And yes, remap the key.
