Angry Chrome is stopping support for Vista

That stinks. In the meantime, is there a way to hack the nag notification that comes up every time I reboot? Google claims there is no way to turn it off.
Please don't tell me to switch web browsers. For now, I just want to remove the notification.

google is stopping support for 32bit OSes, period. You can etiher update or move to something else.

chromium is the non-google version of chrome based on the source code that google provides. AFAIK they are still supporting 32bit builds, and they do have Windows versions available. If you look around on their site you should be able to get the win32 version - https://www.chromium.org/Home

I'm running Vista 64 bit
Edit:
I checked into the link you provided. Seems like its more for developers that don't mind bugs. Maybe I'm just not reading it right. Are you using Chromium? Which build?

Running XP on all my cheap media puters. I WAS using chrome.

Alot of people haven't upgraded to the latest MS bloatware. They've all been complaining about this.

Time to give firefox a try.

Microsoft released Windows XP on October 25, 2001. Microsoft stopped supporting Windows XP on April 8th, 2014. That's coming up on 2 years!

Maybe it's time to move on...

FYI: Microsoft will end support for Windows Vista on April 11, 2017 and Windows 8 on January 10, 2023.

I'm aware of that. Big mistake by MS. Coulda made alot more money charging yearly for security patches for XP.

Anyway.... Had Windows 8.1 on my desktop.... till it messed up the HDD. Harddrive scan found nothing wrong with the drive.

Funny enough 8.1 had no issues reinstalling over itself. Such a POS.

What stinks is MS isn't officially dumping Vista for a year and a half but Chrome is out in 3 months. I am not a big fan of conspiracy theories but it sure seems like everyone wants to push users out of Vista and 7 because the newer software has more control, less privacy, and you can't use old programs that ran on them.

Or more likely maintaining a shiatload of #ifdef statements to work around crap that is broken in the OS and they know won't ever be fixed... and perhaps some of that old cruft is preventing newer issues from being fixed or newer features from being implemented properly.

But hey, the source is open and available, and if you think maintaining that kinda stuff is easy, well download and go for it.,,,

PITA but if you can stomach a the change now is a good time to look at linux. Not for everyone but most of us just use a web browser and maybe an office app anyway. All that stuff works great, is compatible with MS Office and available for free.

Thanks, will look for XP OS, still using an older version of AutoCad with it.

XP ? Good lord, your stuck at 3.97 GB of RAM unless you're running XP 64, and I doubt anyone is. Time to let it go.

It's worth spending $300 and having a state of the art machine or laptop.

Do you know how to burn a DVD data disk?

Download a live Ubuntu distribution, burn to disc, boot from disc, try it out.

Download Ubuntu Desktop | Download | Ubuntu

Personally I prefer Mint, but same deal, download, burn, try out.

Download - Linux Mint

If you like Linux you can install straight from the live disc.

Fair warning, even though Ubuntu and Mint try, and succeed fairly well, to be Windows or OSX replacements they still require a stronger skill set to live with them comfortably.

Not quite as simple as windows, when it works, but so many more options and features. That is also a negative as the options can be a bit overwhelming. Mint is a good idea too, some more info here https://www.osdisc.com/products/linux/linuxmint?affiliate=linuxmint

Linux is not for the average computer Joe. If you want a Unix-based system, you are better off getting a Mac. At least you will have access to support and more mainstream software.

Partial disagree. My daily driver is a Mac, but I do development work on Ubuntu. I'm not some linux geek, and I was pleasantly surprised by how user friendly it is. Linux distributions have gotten to be quiet polished. And there are tons of free apps available for them.
