I turned off automatic updates last night and my computer was installing an update this morning when I shut it down. Thanks, MS.

I have run into the same exact thing; I think MS considers turning off auto updates a "suggestion" and not a command.

Don't you know? It's not your computer, it's THEIR computer.

All your PC are belong to us.

Updates is off on all my computers. If they force an update to Windows 10, I know a few thousand doctors that won't be able to access any of their medical records.

I'm going to laugh so hard if this update deletes all your songs in I-tunes

Steve Carlton 02-04-2016 09:46 AM

Resistance is futile.

I just want to thank you guys for saving me from Windows 10. I am mostly a Mac person these days, but still have a Windows 7 desktop that I use occasionally. Mostly it runs my USB drive backups of a bunch of valued files.
I just got finished downloading and running the GWX Control Panel. My PC was loaded with Win 10 junk, ready to jump me as soon as my back was turned

THANKS!!!

I like Windows 10 just fine, actually. I'm running it in a virtual machine.

Just don't let KB:3035583 download. If you already have the popup, go in and delete the file.

I deleted that but I still have the prompt in the corner to upgrade to Win 10. How do I kill that?

Steve Carlton 02-05-2016 07:01 AM

You will be assimilated.

Just spent 45mins figuring out how to stop the GWX.exe service, removing the KB3035583 update, hiding it from future updates and finally getting permissions set to delete the GWX folder in sys32. Hopefully this will stick...
Kinda nice of Microsoft to 'offer' a free upgrade, but now it is like a car dealer coming to your house to trade your bought and paid for Cobalt for their new, must-have Volt... whether you like it or not. *****, I installed Win7 Pro (an older OS) simply to avoid Win8. My office network runs on Win7 Pro so I'm off to work to do the same to the 12 computers there. You all have a nice day

Grrr. baby, Grrrrr! :-(

intakexhaust 02-05-2016 10:20 AM

Guaranteed Microsoft Corp. WILL PLANT a bug and intentionally corrupt your Win7

J P Stein 02-05-2016 10:40 AM

I've made my peace with Win10, but I am a low tech user. It occasionally throws me a high, inside hardball tho.

rfloz 02-05-2016 10:52 AM

When Windows10 is forced upon me and/or Windows refuses to support Win7, I'll be going to Apple.

stealthn 02-05-2016 12:02 PM

Yeah thanks Microsoft.....

Our clients are panicking, e have a few with remote sites with only cellular, so it's bogging down the link, blocked it on the firewalls for now, but we need a plan.

I'll be pissed if my rock solid Win7 PC's decide to do the update. Luckily we only do critical updates but dollars to donuts MS will switch it to critical rather than recommended to force it down people's throats.
